Star Trek Car
A car that behaves like it is in the star trek universe | |
A car that has sensors to tell if there
is a hull breach and a radar and lazer
detector to tell if it is being scanned.
Sonar pings to tell you if it is going
to hit something.
Liscence plate numbers on the hood
of the car.
A similar voice to tell you if there is
anything wrong.
(The military has
this for their craft and they use the
name 'Bitch'n Betty'.) Red and yellow
interior lights. Also it will have a CB
radio.
It can't have shields, phazers,
holodecks, transporters or replicators
yet, 'cause those are not bakeable,
but grill mounted torpedoes, oh
yeah. The engine can be in the back
of the car so you can eject it quickly.
If you think it will ruin your car think
of the car in persuit behind you.
Finally, it should have a kilo of C4
plastic explosive, so you can threaten
to self destruct if you don't get your
way.
To go with the theme, I'm thinking it
should be a Plymouth Voyager or
something.

"a kilo of C4" - make sure you avoid those marine check-points. |

Just a Star Trek dashboard and a photon torpedo (noise) horn would be enough to make one's point, I think. |

I know there is at least one Star Trek fan out there who has customized a white minivan to look like a shuttlecraft. It was an early 1990's Chevrolet Lumina APV, Pontiac Trans Sport or Oldsmobile Silhouette---if you remember those, they had a long sweeping windshield that added to the look. |
|
|
Anyway, I know because I saw it in person in a parking lot once. NCC-1701 on the side, customized license plate and so on. He even had appropriate logos on the cardboard sunvisor doohickey that you put in the windshield when parked. |

Try as I might, I couldn't google up a photo of that one, but see link for a poor substitute. |

This reminds me of the Winnebago Eagle in Space Balls--man I always wanted one! |

My 626 has a digital instrument cluster that's quite a bit like something you'd see on a Star Trek control panel. The tachometer consists of a series of bars that go from one end of the cluster to the other. So you get the analog effect with the nifty LCD display. |

Would we have to navigate by touchpanel? |

"The Hyundai is hailing us, Captain."
"On screen."
"THIS IS DRIVER SCOTT MARTIN OF THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA. I ORDER YOU TO MOVE INTO THE RIGHT LANE IMMEDIATELY."
"Shields up! Lock on photon torpedoes, full spread. FIRE!"
"Direct hit, Captain. The Hyundai has been destroyed." |

Phundog's entry suggests a new venue for FPS--combine that heads-up windshield display in your new Chrysler Enterprise with an Elite Force GT videogame on your in-dash XBox...of course, you'd be driving to your Star Trek-themed hotel in Vegas, complete with sliding doors, curvy anonymous corridors, turbolifts and fellow permanent conventioneers in heavy makeup, all winging it on that old familiar filk song... |
