This idea is quite simple really - The standardisation of the shape and size of kitchenware.
This would enhance stackability of bowls, plates or cups of different types and stop the big stack of plates in my kitchen cupboard from falling forwards whenever i open the door.
It may also help when
loading dishwashers, maximise storage space in kitchen cupboards and in general, making that every day duty of washing and drying much easier.

Hmm....then there's side boards (and water boards but I think that may be different) which by [rods] initial explanation would be a board for putting sides on. Sides of meat prehaps. Or maybe humerous asides. Seems strange that early furniture was largely designed for the balancing of drinking vessels, legs of lamb or wisecracks.
