Spiral Light Cable Makes Hypnotic Temporary Patterns

Brightly flashing plastic tube temporarily lights up lines to create fading spiral art.

First pic shows the mechanism, it's planets in the animation but this would be a reel of plastic that contains a bright flashbulb and a module pulling that plastic out to various lengths as the two contact points cycled around each other.

The side facing the viewers could be painted black so you didn't see the flash as much which might distract from the lines that flash was drawing.

Could also just have a laser to it but that wouldn't be as cool.

Be relaxing to watch.

This with the light element flashing as the reel and extent module cycle around each other. https://sciencealer...ttern-through-space
They'd create a continuous fading spiral thing. [doctorremulac3, Oct 15 2024, last modified Oct 17 2024]

Was that link bad? Had question marks on it.

Put a new one up, question marks went away.

The site's been gigging for the last two days for me. Cutting off partway through loading a page. taking dial-up speeds to change a page, etc. Maybe it's not just me.

My correction of a misspelling above took almost a minute to load.

       ...and so did that

Yes I flagged the link, repeated clicks turned into repeated flags with a minutes delay. The new link is working fine.

But Poc, it's still not working, it's not showing your croissant!

Could also make one with strings instead of the light. Have the sting go up and down in sand like those sand pendulum things.

Got it! It's a rubber band that vibrates making notches when it hits the sand. Plus the tone would go up and down adding to the hypnotic effect.

Maybe have a wire that's the positive and have the background be the negative and when the string vibrates it sparks and makes a temporary line.

I think this would be kind of fun to play around with.

I have found the halfbakery slow too, and sometimes a page will fail to load with an error. I emailed Jutta, and she says she's looking into it. It's intermittent, though - it seems fine at the moment.
It's a bit concerning.

A rare fishbone from me - I do not think watching such things is relaxing.

Well it would be in an art gallery as exibit, not like you'd sit staring for more than a moment or two.
