Spiral Cut Pizza

Pizza cut in an ever decreasing curve

Instead of cutting a pizza into triangular slices, cut it into a spiral. That way, each "slice" is as much as you rip from the spiral, and the radius of the pizza becomes smaller and smaller as you eat.

perhaps we should roll up a pizza like a swiss roll cake (see Image) then cut into slices http://www.smart.co...cipes/swissroll.jpg

       +. nice.

Or a huge 'cookie-cutter' for pizzas which will, in one cut, demonstrate the beauty of Penrose Tiling with a 12" pizza (see link).

hmmm. pizza. would this work in 3D for, like, oranges and stuff ?
neilp, Oct 12 2003

If you start from the outside, everyone has to start by eating the crust (which many people don't). An informal survey reveals that 98.4% of people start a pizza slice from the middle.

Yes, nice idea. Welcome to the bakery. (WTAGIPBAN)

well, it makes sense that if you cut a circular pizza into triangles, you will hold the dry crust and eat the pointy end, rather than hold the greasy pointy end and attempt to eat the wide crust side. do 1.6% of people really do this or something else?
po, Oct 12 2003

That's the 1.6% of people who eat pizza with a knife and fork.
hippo, Oct 12 2003

people do that? thats like eating fish n'chips on a plate.

if those saddo's *have* to use a utensil, then purleese lets design an hb one.

       Good form, and +.

I wasn't really in to this idea until I realized that this slicing presents an interesting presentation option.

Visualize a pan, cut the same way as the proposed pizza. Now, lift the center of the pan maybe 8 or 10 inches while holding the outermost portion of the spiral flat to the table. Affix to a support mechanism to hold the pan in this shape. Serve the pizza on this tapered screw form. (It's way beyond my current artistic abilities to illustrate this). I can see this presentation being used in one of those pseudo-pizza places like California Pizza Kitchen.

Of course the spiral pizza will have to be cut across the spiral to make individual pieces. Tearing pizza doesn't work too well in my experience.

(I eat pizza with a knife and fork. Well, most of the time anyway. Since my teeth are undergoing alignment, it's getting easier to bite through pizza.)

Without hands, with utensils might be a bit of challenge as well.

I like the idea, but I don't think it will work out. It's hard enough to get the people at the Pizza Parlor to cut the pizza all of the way through when they are cutting triangles. With something this comlicated you'd be lucky if it was cut at all. + For the idea though. After a while, regular old pizza starts to get boring.

Perhaps those 1.6% are eating Chicago style pizza? I was looking for a link to explain this, and noticed on Giordano’s mail order page, “Giordanos will now half bake and freeze our famous stuffed pizzas. They are packed in dry ice for shipping anywhere in the USA.” See link.
Laughs Last, Oct 13 2003

Maybe the 1.6% roll up the entire pizza as if it were a crépe, á la swiss roll and eat it in one go?

       (nice idea btw +)

[jinbish] 2 minds as one eh, see link.

This is OK as long as you're told in advance it's gonna be spiraled. Otherwise it's as shocking as finding it cut into those little squares.
Amos Kito, Oct 13 2003

There needs to be something unusual in the very center, sort of a reverse cherry on top. Perhaps a fishead, eyes intact? But for you [Knut], a deletcable pastry.
bungston, Oct 13 2003

However, if the pizza-producing staff at your favorite local establishment fail to make a sure spiral cut of pizza, then you leave half of it in the box ... ITS PIZZA SLAUGHTER .... but a very good idea [+]

Put the pizza on a lazy susan and spin it as you cut outwards.
RayfordSteele, Oct 13 2003

I baked this when I worked at a pizza place. When F&F would order pizza, I'd cut it into spirals, cocentric circles, parallel strips (on a round pizza), etc.
