A series of obstacles placed about the field that players
would have to play around and figure into their strategy.
Should be pretty easy to do if they're inflatable. Might even
have a water slide portion that's slippery.

Yeah, they definitely need more ways to get "injured". |
|
|
Also, make the field bigger. A couple of km long at least (more
space for obstacles). |

All team sport pitches should have a black hole at the centre point surrounded by an area mowed slighly shorter than the rest of the grass. (to designate the event horizon) Players who feel like taking advantage of the gravitational force and time distortion effects of the black hole can get closer to it. If they stray to close and fall in, well, that's just too bad. "New ball please - No 10 has had a hissy fit" (fleeting sound as No 10 spaghettifies into the void) |

That could be emulated with modern technology with enough metal in the uniforms and balls* and sufficiently powerful magnets. |

Oversized pinball gadgetry. |

|
In fact having some of these be active like a pinball machine
might be kind of cool. Kick it towards the barrel shaped thingy
and it gets energetically batted away in another direction,
unless you screw up and hit it square on in which case it
shoots it into your face. |

Which would make soccer almost watchable. |
|
|
Maybe there's a way to make baseball watchable, perhaps if
they occasionally hit the ball? |
|
|
Maybe some kind of cross between baseball and paintball. |
