Soap Box Derby For Grown Ups

Much like the depression because we can't afford to fix our cars.

The adult soap box derby would be much like the depression founded sport, just on a larger scale with possibilities for more speed and more destruction. And hey, who doesn't like to relive their childhood. The idea is simple. Most people, when they can't fix their cars, either haul them to a junkyard or leave them rotting in the street. I propose that we form a new sport where we take these cars, remove the engines and race them with only the power of gravity and really steep hills. We would have to install small lawnmower engines to power the brake master cylinder, but that would be the only modification needed in this low budget, and very fun racing sport.

Well, if you're using old junk cars, then it wouldn't be a "soapbox" derby, it would turn into redneck down-hill bowling.
Letsbuildafort, Dec 18 2003

I take offence letsbuildafort. And furthermore, where's the bowling come in? It's a race. I like it.
the rooster, Dec 18 2003

I don't see what there is to get offended about, but oh well ... its bowling because you are simply rolling down the hill via gravity power.
Letsbuildafort, Dec 18 2003

The offence was taken in the needless redneck comment. It is a generally derogative term. But no bother. I guess it fits that I like it.

And because I like to bicker...You need pins to bowl.

"you might be a redneck if ... you go bowling with an old car and no pins"

They're not motorized, but I think we can safely classify bed races as adult soap box derbies.

       bed push?

whats a soap box? here, it is a box you stand on at the hustings.

Yes indeed, [buddha_pest] I whole-heartedly agree. You need Okies for pins. Soapboxes are also used to flee an angry mob after your oration just earned you a few too many enenies. It all started in the great depression with kids speaking too much, and the adults would become enraged and chase them down hills. But as they did so, their boxes would fall apart from the friction and broken glass. So one day the kids got a little smarter, and found out they could elude their persuers by adding wheels to their soapboxes to speed downhills and to saftey.

Yep - and they're still beating-out Honda soapboxes.
Letsbuildafort, Dec 18 2003

i happen to very much like this idea. What better way to vent your anger and frustration then to get back the POS car that broke down on you by running amuck with it??? Sounds like way too much fun to be had.

right hand drive suzuki would be so nice :)
