Smoke-Repellant Hat

Hat that repels cigarette/cigar smoke

I know several people who have a terrible time being in places where others are smoking. This is not a moral judgment, but allergic reaction to the smoke, especially because of eye problems. My Mom crochets hats out of various materials (she has done one for my Dad out of the plastic grocery bags you get at stores like K-Mart and Wal-Mart and he gets all sorts of compliments - and she gets people who want her to make them one).

I want to make a hat with a wide brim that would repel cigarette or cigar smoke for people like my Mom who have a really bad time with smoke so they can go to places where the smoke is heavy and it wouldn't bother them! If it was a material Mom could crochet with, so much the better!

by me. Approach could be fitted to a hat, certainly. [calum, Feb 18 2010]

I don't think that a wide brim would keep smoke away. What you'd need would be a giant revolving windmill on your head. Yes, that would be much better.

I think [Shemie] might be asking for advice on how to.

You could make a small electrostatic scrubber in the form of a top hat and vent the scrubbed air out from under the brim.

You could say "I hate white rabbits, I hate white rabbits.."

Better to get her a CO2 fire extinguisher. When she sees someone smoking, she can put it out for them.

WARNING: Discharging a CO2 extinguisher at a smoker's face can (hopefully) cause severe injury if done correctly.

It's at times like this that you really, really need a [FarmerJohn].

you could get some of those *fan* earrings to just blow the smoke away...
hmm, I looked for a link, but maybe I dreamed them...I'm sure I've seen some tiny, motorized fans hanging on earrings, if not, I'll go invent some...

It's a well-known fact that smoke always blows towards the non-smoker. This could be exploited as a source of renewable energy, by building a wind turbine between a health farm and a hippy commune.
