The word "How?" springs to mind at this point.

SkyTanic

build the Titanic as a full scale derigible

To commemorate centenary of the building of the great ship in 1912 (my grandfather worked on it) I propose an airship version be made to the same dimensions.

This detailed model in dirigible form would be tethered at a suitably low height so that the entire ship could be appreciated in true scale, floating above the water. At night it would of course be fully illuminated.

illustration to follow (after my fab mother goes home following her Christmas dinner)

Annotation:

Very good. We suggest that it should be filled with Hydrogen, and an iceberg-shaped balloon tethered alongside.

At the end of the commemoration, David Blaine will be given a stepladder, a box of matches, and an instruction to "Get on with it."

       Towed by the HindeNautilusburg.

       Beautiful idea.

There's a half-scale bow section in Branson, Missouri, at the tacky museum.

Airship pedantry: "dirigible" means a balloon that is "directable", so a tethered balloon is not dirigible. (Yeah, I know you said "form".)

I'd really like to see the SkyTanic untethered, just drifting through the sky ready to bump into something. [+]

Thanks.... had too much to drink to make illustration tonight. Plus a very close friend of ten years has frozen me out of her life and I'm totally devastated, so don't feel much like doing anything tonight.

Have started work on illustration for Skytanic, but also writing up a patent application for another idea.... horrible process. Idea is good, but describing it in terms like abstract; claim; detailed description is a pain. Thinking it up and making drawing was best bit. Rest is for dweebs. (puts dweeb hat on and goes back to 6th draft - sighs)

Great idea, [xenzag]! (Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, I will miss its maiden flight across the North Atlantic.) [+]

Thanks and happy new year..... bloody illustration took me 5 hours, and I'm still not totally happy with it. May do a night version some time.
