SimEverything

A game where you can do everything you can do in real life, but in a game.

I guess it really wouldn't be a "game" per se, but another world. It's not really possible with the storage media we have today, not to mention the programming effort, but maybe someday.

The game would consist of everything that exists today, anything and everything, if you want to go bake a cake, you can, you can make it good, or leave it in the oven for a month. You can do anything you could do in real life, smash your TV, drink some scalding water, sabotage a nuclear plant, anything. Every detail in the game would respond to you acting on it, right down to every rock on the street. Every person would react different, just like real life. There is no goal, but it offers something to anyone, what ever you want to do, you can!

[This goes on the basis of a previous posting about Grand Theft Auto, and other such games, you end up messing with the envionment more than you do actually playing the game, so really, this game is exactly that, really endless possibilities.]

The real SimEverything, now renamed "Spore". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spore_(game)
This isn't the hyper-realistic game described in this idea; I'm just linking to it because of the name collision. [jutta, Mar 28 2006]

Every now and then a person comes along to whom the whole concept of "normal life" appears to have been mysteriously eradicated and replaced with what can only be said to be a considerable pile of turd.

There are already special "alternative worlds" for people like you filterX. They have rubber walls.

sabotage a nuclear plant in real life, eh...?

Riiiight. And I suppose you've never heard of "The Matrix" or "eXistenZ" or "The Thirteenth Floor" or ... etc etc etc.

Great new concept there, bub. :-)

(+) this is exactly what we will all be doing in the photorealistic tactile virtual realities of the not-too-distant future, most of the time, when we are not (ahem) playing games - and we will probably be playing those games on consoles INSIDE the simulated environment too, it'll just be another available activity.

The (obvious) tricky part for this one would be the absolutely *massive* amounts of computer power needed.

We have enough trouble just simulating weather patterns...
