Sheep in Sheep's Clothing

Knitted outfits for sheep

When the weather begins to turn warmer, sheep enjoy being sheared, relieving them of all that suffocating winter wool, but sometimes there is an unpredicted cold snap. This leaves the poor sheep in a most uncomfortable condition, their almost bare skin exposed to the freezing elements, making them very unhappy.

Sheep in Sheep's Clothing are knitted woollen outfits for the sheep to don if the weather unexpectedly turns cold. To add to the fun, they come in a range of bright, hooped colours, Benetton style. As an alternative they can put on fake Friesian cow patch outfits, so that they look like a field of stubby legged bovines.

From the aforementiond Wallace & Gromit movie. I had a Shaun the Sheep kitchen timer; great idea, lousy kitchen timer. (Broke. Twice.) [jutta, Mar 03 2008]

MB, interesting link. Great potential advertising space.

xenzag, how about camo design so sheep are safer? Or for the sheep rancher with a sense of humour: other animal skin patterns (zebra, tiger, leopard, etc.).
Canuck, Mar 02 2008

Other animal patterns good, hence cow patches... unformity is best - i.e. all Benettons or all friesians (with perhaps one solitary tiger)

Sheep in leopard's clothing? That has a nice ring to it.

//camo design so sheep are safer//... now you've got me wondering how a kevlar sheep-scabbard might work at fending off predators.

I think the coats should each have a single letter or digit on them. Skilled sheepherds, with skilled shepdogs, could then be challenged to create the longest possible word, or the first 23 digits of pi.

[UnaBubba] Don't feel too bad. She told me she's managed to come to terms with the regrets.

I understood that the sheep covers were originally meant for bad weather and post-shearing, but many farmers now use them year-round.

Please, make them sheep-colored. I woke up one cold morning, staggered blearily to the window, and saw a purple horse across the road. Before I realized he was wearing a blanket, I'd smashed two bottles.
baconbrain, Mar 02 2008

MB, I had thought of adding the letters idea, but I have found when dealing with this lot it's best to not supply them with new ways to tell the neighbours where to go.
Canuck, Mar 02 2008

Can't the sheep huddle together to stay warm? Maybe a big rabbit and raccoon fur blanket could be tossed over the whole group of sheep so as to increase the group warming effort.

Sheep's tolerance to cold is rivalled only by the majestic emperor penguin. Maybe.
Texticle, Mar 03 2008

//Sheep's tolerance to cold is rivalled only by the majestic emperor penguin.// I don't really see how that's meant to be impressive. Sheep are bound to be tolerant of penguins, as the two species don't compete for food or anything else.
MaxwellBuchanan, Mar 03 2008

When i was in NZ, i saw quite a lot of sheep. I was rather surprised at the amount of crap that was mashed into their backsides. It seemed to me they were more poo than animal.

Thusly, I recommend the sheep outfits take a wide detour around the backside, for sake of cleanliness.
ericscottf, Mar 04 2008

I think the waistcoat style would be best, leaving a clear passage around the toilet area of the sheep.
xenzag, Mar 04 2008

//Sheep are bound to be tolerant of penguins// I don't know about that....according to Harding and Percival's "The Unlikely Carnivores" sheep will readily devour penguins when marooned on an iceflow with no other source of food.
xenzag, Mar 04 2008

Can't they just glissade down the iceflow to the valley, and maybe get some edelweiss?
baconbrain, Mar 04 2008

//Sheep are cannibals. That's how they got "scrapie", the sheep version of mad cow disease.//

Possible but unlikely. Not only does scrapie tend to arise spontaneously in flocks from time to time, but it is also transmissible in circumstances where cannibalism can't or doesn't happen.

To be honest, nobody knows much about the mechanism of transmission. Nobody knows much about any of the prion diseases, because 50 years of research by idiots has resulted in about 5 years worth of progress. Prion research as a whole is an absolute joke.
MaxwellBuchanan, Mar 04 2008

Scrapie "symptoms include excessive lip-smacking, strange gaits, and convulsive collapse."

I'd say they get it down at the pub.
baconbrain, Mar 05 2008

What defines _excessive_ lip smacking? I've never known a sheep to smack its lips, so I'm guessing not a great deal.
