There I was the other day hoping to swap a zip in my ruck-sack, when I realised that no-one I know owns a sewing machine.. hence .. the sewing cafe. All of the items you'd be likely to require (a sewing machine, threads, patches, zip(per)s, needles, knitting needles etc.) in the one friendly place available for hire. Like an internet cafe for the keen needle person.

This place almost gets to Sewing Cafe (I've been there) - maybe they could be bumped over into Cafeland [cindik, Mar 23 2009]

In a very large city perhaps ? http://en.wikipedia...ping_School_for_Men
A Sewing Cafe for men mostly. When you have to learn how to knit/sew, but don't want to be embarrassed [popbottle, Jul 21 2014]

Annotation:

At first I thought this to be a sew-sew idea, but it is actually pretty good. In an age when we need to conserve and cut down on waste, this is an efficient way to offer these types of repairs to the public as well as a way for those with sewing talents to be employed.

The machines for hobbyists are too easily destroyed by wrong usage, and the indestructible industrial models do not stop for anything / may be turned on by suffering; So the Sewing Cafe would go broke on either the lawsuits or the repairs.

So you need a hybrid machine, robust like the industrial models, but user-friendly like the home models. That doesn’t sound like an insurmountable problem. It’s one that the sewing machine makers should be willing to work on if they decide that equipping sewing cafes is a viable market.

Hey, I rented a chain-saw once, and I see that the rental company hasn’t gone out of business yet.

I like to sew, and wish I had a machine that would allow me to sew two tires together. And I need one for a motorcycle seat cover.
