I assume this is based on the Stinger / SpikeStrip principle that hollow spikes deflate tyres slowly allowing the driver to retain control while still forcing him to stop. Note the word 'retain'; if the car is already out of control, I don't think this would help. |

I like this because it is halfbaked in the best way: the well intentioned, superficially plausible idea which would be an absolute disaster if implemented. |
"Recipes for disaster" really ought to be the motto for this site. |

The curbs are there so you dont go into the oncoming lane and die in a head-on collision. |
Where I live, there is a dim painted line seperating you from hurtling death in the opposite lane. Curbs are to protect lawns and flowers. |
And since you are here, I assume that the dim line works well... |
I would think the threat of the spikes themselves would be much more effective than an actual curb. |
I've not seen many centerline curbs. |
We have a few in NYC, thin remnants of much wider strips with grass and trees. |

I'm still wondering why we need to blow out the tires of the large group of people who need to pull over on a road for some reason, to save a modicum of money for some small number of people who lose control of their cars. And I'm also not clear how a 1' curb/kerb will cave in your whole front-end/bonnet. |
To teach them a lesson of course. |
Actually, near where I work, cheeky buggers are always parking on the pavement. This would be a good deterrent. |

/to save a modicum of money for some small number of people who lose control of their cars/ - if you are plagued by this problem, as I am, that modicum adds up fast. This idea would also ameliorate the sheer terror felt by folks who look out their front window and see a car careening across their lawn towards them. |

I have never lost control of my car. I dont see how you all cant understand how much damage curbs cause to cars. While not stoping them, let me add. |
