Why on earth would you want that many gazelles anyway?

A pitched-black, sound-dampened room, in which are placed tactile sculptures.

The works can be of the regular type - originally meant to be enjoyed with the eyes only - and also of the exclusively tactile, utilizing different finishes of stone, metal and glass. (bonus points if it makes no sense visually)

The floorplan is posted on the wall next to the entrance tunnel; the pieces are set in smooth, flat, circular areas between bricked paths. The circular wall features a handrail, just in case.

(This isn't an "exhibit for the visually impaired", it's an "exhibit for the tactually enabled")

Not the same, but if you like this idea, you might enjoy crawling through this three-dimensional labyrinth covered in interesting surfaces. [jutta, Oct 29 2017]

       Intriguing.

Would olfactory notes add or detract to the processing of the somatosensory play?

Artworks with unique material transitions against the expected grain would be a treat. An unexpected sculpturing of polyvinyl alcohol with borate ions.

It will have to be a solitary experience, otherwise there may be tactile interaction with other visitors ...

As the low brow of the .5ness assembled here, let me be the one to bring up misuse of the venue. As for the idea, bun.

Hey, [V], don't sell yourself short ... it's only a matter of time before one of the real bottom-feeders* shows up and makes you look like some sort of prudish puritan ...

*Which we sincerely hope is a metaphor, but fear that in [JHC]'s case may be literally true ... EEEEEEWWWwwww nasty ....

       Sp.: "pitch black"

I think you'll just end up with homeless men making out with the Venus de Milo.
Cuit_au_Four, Oct 29 2017

Well, that's nothing to be concerned about, it's armless enough ...

"pitched" as a more emphatic variation of the metaphor.

Security is a concern in any public venue. Some guy in IR gear could hang around inside as guard/cleaner.
FlyingToaster, Oct 30 2017

The security guard should wear vantablack, so as to be even more invisible than everyone else.

A black cat that isn't there should also be involved.
pertinax, Oct 30 2017

I like the idea of a vantablack cat - it would look like a 2 dimensional figure with eyes.

Useful. Just aim between the two reflective disks.

       Great...
Now I'm gonna have that song "Feelings" stuck in my head all day.

       nothing more than...

This idea could be modified into an olfactarium, where visitors stand on a travellator and are smoothly conveyed, in darkness and silence, through zones of different odours.

//It will have to be a solitary experience, otherwise there may be tactile interaction with other visitors ...//

Not only that, you may accidentally grab somebody's ass.
doctorremulac3, Nov 01 2017

Didn't you see the "NO EQUINES" sign ?
8th of 7, Nov 01 2017

       //solitary experience//

Not necessarily : one of the obvious exhibits would be an elephant made from various materials, ab the parable "The Blind Men and an Elephant".
FlyingToaster, Nov 01 2017

Why not just have an actual elephant in the room ?
8th of 7, Nov 01 2017

//Didn't you see the "NO EQUINES" sign ?//

No. Somebody made it bloomin' dark in here, and while I did feel some random bumps on a flat surface, Braille isn't my strong suit.
RayfordSteele, Nov 02 2017

Braille suit ? You shoud post that ...
8th of 7, Nov 02 2017

Hmm... maybe a Braille helmet that I can control the wording on. Reading my mind could become a much more sensual experience than the disturbing one it is at the moment...
RayfordSteele, Nov 02 2017

^ Sorry 'bout that. I'm working on it.

Ha! I looked it up and 'turb' is actually a root word! Derives from 'stirred up'.
This means that some folks might actually feel turbed at having their minds read.

...and as an added bonus, it's the root of the word masturbate.
hahahahahaha it just gets better and better.

That makes me feel very gruntled.
RayfordSteele, Nov 02 2017

I visited a museum where you put your arms in a hole and felt something without looking at it. And, no I wasn't mistakenly in a darkened lab with radioactive substances under a hood and manipulator gloves.
beanangel, Nov 02 2017

Ugh. When I was a kid they had a blind-folded haunted house one Halloween where you had to stick your hands into jars containing eye balls (olives), cooked lasagne noodles (guts), and canned peaches (kidneys) etc.

To this day I can't smell canned peaches without feeling that tactile sensation of handling kidneys.

Some people have all the luck ...

       right?...
