SendButton
Real-Life Send Button for Conferences and Meetings | |
I want a Real-Life Send Button something like email for conferences, meetings and every day conversation. Not unlike the Real Life Edit-Undo suggested a few years ago. The Send Button would allow me to think out loud without adverse effect. If the Real-Life Send Button has not been pressed, then those
listeners present are not allowed to form an opinion. I actually used something like this when I made a verbal mistake in a meeting. After someone pointed out my error, I said "Did I press the Send Button yet?"
Straw Man

It is a bit on the magical side - and you know geeks would start making use of their ^H buttons to the bewildered confusion of the rest of us. |

|
I suppose it could come in badge form, which lit up in a glorious pyrotechnical bonanza and said "SEND" when pressed, maybe accompanied by a fanfare. |
|
|
I'll have my big "Escape" button for dull meetings. |

Great idea, pooduck, I like the idea of an electronic badge. I'll start work on it right away. |

There are many existing ways around this. Just preface your remarks with a suitable statement -
"I may be way out of line on this, but how about..."
"I'm not sure I understand the problem fully, but what if we were to..."
"This is going to sound stupid, but..."
"Here's a thought, how about..."
All nice, good, old-fashioned ways of using your tongue to indicate that, although you sound like a total jackass, you're really not. |

There appears to be the right way, the wrong way, the weasel way and the badge way. |

I agree with [DrCurry] "There's something wrong with this idea, and I'd like some help in diagnosing the problem." This would also be a good intro to asking for a volunteer from the audience prior to an exhibit of magic. |

Are you required to ignore non-verbal reactions of your listeners before you press the send button? After all, you get a free pass, but what are they supposed to be doing while your finger lingers over the button? |
|
|
// those listeners present are not allowed to form an opinion // |
|
|
How do you propose to stop this from happening? |

Be in a meeting of one. (devil's advocate) Talking to yourself is an effective way of learning difficult material. |

|
To revise for exams I usually leap about my room, reading material from my textbooks, usually to a song of some sort. It really works, and I also lost some weight. |

Can we also get a Real Life Junk Filter, so that I can send the spam I'm about to hear to the wayside before it reaches my Inbox? |
