Self-portrait Camera

For vanity. For beauty. For spotting the spinach in your teeth.

You never turn out the way you want to in pictures. And when you try it yourself with a digital camera...well, the result looks like the last picture taken by a security camera before being dissconnected by the rampaging serial killer. Especially if you're smiling really hard.

But you look in the mirror and think, "Man, I look damn good. Why can't my picture look as good as my reflection?" (sometimes)

Now it can. Assume your most charming smile, pose, check your reflection, and squeeze the infrared clicker hidden in your hand. Voila, a perfect picture. Redeye excluded.

And yes, it is behind a one-way mirror. The most important part, and I forgot it in the original post.

hey neat Rods, must try that. I'm not sure mine will do that though.

yes, it does - just took a half decent pic of my elf.

Redeye, I can accept, but it's good you don't have blue tooth.

What about purple prose? Can you read that through rose-tinted spectacles?

Stoppit! Or there'll be a few black eyes around here. <cracks knuckles>

I managed something similar by holding the digital camera up in front of a mirror, pointing at me, in such a way that I could see the reflection of the LCD.

Better a black eye than a black heart? Caught you red-handed.

You'll look as though you're in the pink of condition.

Our now 14-month-old daughter has always been eager to play to the video camera. But her reaction was multiplied when we started turning the LCD view-screen toward her so she could see herself as she was being filmed.

[Zanzibar]: That's it. I've had enough. If I say anymore, I'll get blue in the face. I'm going to orange an 'accident' for you.

Oh no! Please don't browneye me! I've always been the golden-haired boy! You can't do this to me. You'll be left red-faced, I assure you.

Given that most photo booths have a glass that you can check your reflection in, how is this an improvement? (The problem with photo booth photos is not the pose, after all: it's the bleak lighting, the wide angle lens and the lack of distance between the camera and the subject. These things would likely all apply if it was your bathroom mirror taking the picture.)

I think some cheap cameras have a small mirror mounted on the front for taking self-portraits, just center your face in the mirror and press the shutter. It shouldn't be too hard to glue a small mirror to the front of a cheap P&S. Just to be safe use double-sided foam tape instead of glue in case you want to remove the mirror eventually.
