Scumopoly

Monopoly with a devious twist.

In Monopoly you start off with nothing but a little bit of money and buy property to extract rent from the hapless players who land on it. Scumopoly operates in much the same way with dice, random cards, bank, etc, but with one main twist - unscrupulous play brings rewards.

The value of your buildings can change in Scumopoly, as they may become slums, because in this version of Monopoly, there are dirty deals to be done. Investing wisely carries as many risks as being too cautious, and the successful player needs to be canny, ruthless, and underhand.

In Scumopoly there are vacant lots for sale as well as buildings unto which other players can build stuff - like toxic waste plants or a noisy night club. These immediately devalue the adjacent properties, but may also cause the investor to take a hit from a clean up bill.

Once beautified co-ops can be invaded and inhabited by crack dealers. Rents go down, but the mortgage and property taxes still have to be paid to the bank, because in Scumopoly there is no outright ownership, only a lease.

Other dirty deeds, which are integral to successful play, are: burning down your buildings and collecting the insurance; buying cheap land zoned for municipal parks, and building expensive office blocks instead.

You should bake this - in this cold world the idea is marketable.

You can't buy proeprty if you can only lease it - otherwise it's perfect. [+]

In UK you can purchase property, as either Freehold or Leasehold. See link.

Sounds good! Sounds like a computer game rather than a board game to me, but still good.

<sigh>. Yet another generation of Roves and Trumps to be created.

So if you own a property that becomes a crack den, can you take a slice of the dealer's sales for not reporting him to the cops (perhaps represented as a small lump-sum payment from 'the bank'? Or do you skim a few bucks from anyone that lands on the square ? If it's true Scumopoly, then you should be able to make money from such shady deals !

Neat idea! I think though, that the complexity of figuring out what impact the crack dealer had on the two adjacent properties might slow gameplay. You may need some kind of fancy electronic board.

Yes, this is more like a SimCity variant - "SimHood", perhaps.

Ooh! Instead of railroads, you could have different criminal gangs! And the gang can drop a criminal on any space to extract money there. The owner of the space would have to hire protection from the criminals to get them to move their dealers and whores and politicians.

Blend this with Securitized Monopoly and you can play all the crooked angles. Just wish I could bun it again -

So if you own the Toxic Waste Factory and you land on an opponent's Park Place, you can install some toxic waste barrels there, thus lowering the neighboring squares' rent? Cool! Awesome game variation.

(+) I can't decide if I like the flea bitten cur with it's ribs showing token, or the bullet riddled pimpmobile on blocks token.
