Or odor readers. I tried it once in college...but I didn't inhale.

With smell being the most potent memory aid of the five senses, [link], it follows that odor should be utilized more in the classroom starting with geography.
So I propose a scratch and sniff globe with absolutely no writing on its surface.

The student would first scratch an area on the globe and receive a whiff of that Province, country or cities' main export or industry.
Let's say Newfoundland for example; well it would smell like cod liver oil of course.
Scratching a bit more to the east the smell changes to maple syrup and then to copper.
Once sniffed, that area on the globe can be opened and has all of the geographic information printed on its underside.

MALAYSIA TRIES DOGS TO SNIFF OUT ILLEGAL DVD EXPORTS http://www.siliconv...torial/16895732.htm
Malaysia has started to employ dogs as its latest weapon in tackling illegal distribution of music and movies. Two black Labradors on loan from the MPAA started work at the country's biggest international airport yesterday, sniffing out shipments for fake optical discs.        Do DVD Players and sweatshop cloths really smell like anything?

Stench of quiet desperation? Ah, must be Hollywood.

+ I love the smell of Jamaica.

I'd remember all the smells (feeling of deja p.u.), but I wouldn't remember which smell corresponded to which location.

A slight mistake in your description [2fries]. Newfoundland actually smells like a halfbakery moderator.

As far as I am aware, all of the halfbakery moderators come from Newfoundland.
(hint. search the halfbakery for "moderator Newfoundland")

Newfoundland is where [jutta] breeds her moderators, or so she claims anyway. I suspect that it was genetic engineering, but that she is afraid to admit it lest she be MFD'd for Magic.

That would work nicely for Rotorua, New Zealand, but who would want a globe that farts?
