Running Water Screw

The thing in the link screw shaped so when your run sideways on it it spins and pushes you forward.

The front and back section are screw shaped, the middle is smooth so you can run on it like in those log balancing competitions where to people run on a log trying to knock the other person off.

You'd have a long paddle you'd use to steer it with.

See links.

This thing here with pretty substancial propeller screws along its length. https://www.faceboo...eel/435619396109956

Powered like this. https://www.youtube...watch?v=OjUQTdtzRdc
Obviously without competing with somebody else. Multiple people might even do this in the same direction for extra speed. [doctorremulac3, Jul 03 2024]

Not the water screw, I couldn't get a good representation of it. https://www.dropbox...l1&st=n6ahm0tm&dl=0
Here's the log rolling thing, it's way bigger than the idea but it's the basic premise anyway. [doctorremulac3, Jul 04 2024]

I'd grab a beer and watch it.

Which direction are you wanting it to travel in?
Orthogonal to the running direction, so you'd be running sideways?

I'm not sure an external screw would be efficient. Maybe? My memory of the early experiments is that they found you don't need more than a fraction of a turn - hence, propellers, basically - and anything more than that just adds friction.

Maybe the way to go would be to make the log into a tube, and put the screw on the inside of the leading end. That way, you'd be powering an impellor, basically.
Since you're rotating the entire housing this would effectively be a rim-driven thruster.

Yes, for instance, to go forward, you'd run to the right, to reverse you'd run to the left.

As far as the configuration of the screw shape, a tube with an array of propellors or whatever, the neat thing about that big long float in the video is how its narrow profile seems to allow greater speed because of such a small profile facing the water's oncoming resistance so whatever configuration moved the most water most effectively. Might just want one big propellor on the front frankly.

Yea, could do the impellor thing. Might make a bit wider though.

Would be fun to watch a race with these things.

By the way, you'd carry a dual paddle oar like a kayaker uses both to steer and to help keep your balance.

Well, the log drivers waltz pleases girls completely, so... (+)

You know, there could also be a paddle wheel model where you run backwards to turn the paddles on either end and move forward. Could have them turn independently to make it steerable too.

Also occurred to me, the above could be inflatable, and the long one could be collapsible by having sections that are held together by a rope running down the middle that's pulled tight and secured to keep all the sections in line.

Hmm. That moves it from the "crazy" to "maybe slightly less crazy" category.

       Cool.

Did you know that the word Canada meant village to the first natives asked, "What is this place?"

...and that there's a town not too far from here called, Where He Got His Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump?

...or that the last contracted tribe in North America wrote their oral history and legends down in the same generations that the story tellers were alive?...
...and that my kids name is in that book as having been the one who found one of the six human footprints sunk into solid rock delineating their territory by the Transformers to teach their people?

...or that there existed a single giant Golden Spruce tree here which had a unique method of photosynthesis using yellow needles which, quite an individual, cut down in protest and is now one of the most cultivated and studied trees in existence but can't be brought to market because the specimens were obtained illegally?

       ...or that...

...that's probably enough for one session.

Well see now that's just a shame.
