       This entire incident is worrying. According to the news, "‘Initial indications are the merchant vessel has not sustained damage", whereas the sub is going to take some serious panel-beating.   

       It strikes me that we ought to find out what they build trawlers out of, and see if we can't use it to make our new Trident subs.

       That's an HB post, right there ... a huge (nuclear powered) submersible vessel with a retractable "gaping maw" tens of metres across that funnels fish in to a central aperture, sorts them by size and species, and releases unharmed all the unwanted ones.
