So what you start out with is a row of newpaper-like
dispensers. you bring something that you want to sell
that
would fit into this machine. you insert $1 per day you
want it
in the dispenser. Then you input the price you are
looking for
as well as a number you can be reached at on the
keypad
inside the dispenser. A small paper is printed off with
the
eject time of your object and the price and phone
number are
listed on the digital screen. A person can now come, put
X dollars into the machine and buy your object right then
and there.
You would come back at the eject time either to receive
your object back or the money, which would either be
separated physically from the other money, or would
simply use a code which would appear on the paper it
printed out to withdraw the money for you. Of course the
code would do nothing if the object was still there.
Every day a website in your area would update with the
new
stuff in the machine, so it's almost the exact same as
kijiji
without the buyer seller phonetag that always seems to
happen.

Kijiji of Canada is also known as EBay Classifieds in some markets. It allows users to see classified ads within very tight geographic parameters of their location. It resembles Craigslist, but with even better geographic focus. [jurist, Jul 04 2010]

yes, sorry for not being more specific. You can put
money in to buy things in the same place where you
rent time. |

I think you need a system to ensure honesty among sellers. If something is in a vending machine, it cannot be inspected before purchase. Perhaps sellers have to register, and the buyer could enter a product rating afterwards, and the machine would record this. |

I think the best payment option would be credit to a seller's account, and the funds withdrawable via website or mail to the office. |

If I was a thug, I would just hang around those vending machines waiting for the expiry times to "eject" the unsold merchandise and quickly load it into a waiting van. If the legitimate owner happened to be on hand similarly waiting for his merchandise to be ejected, then he or she might be loaded into the van as well, and we can sort out the value of each down the road. |

So a buck a day or something until you take it back or it sells. The automatic popping open of the unit when time expires would scare any potential customers away. |

The best bet would be to put it in a building with a person watching it, but then you don't need the machines. Reality always smacks down the neatest ideas. |
