This is a combination of an outdoor gas heater for the front of
restaurants or clubs, and the
Reuben's tube flame experiment which visualizes sound played
into a
gas filled tube via flames coming out of holes in the side of the
tube.
This gas tube heater could be placed outside of clubs
where
people
need to stay warm while they are drinking and flirting and
listening
to music, and the club music could be pumped into the tube,
visualizing the music. (See both links)
It could be horizontal rather than vertical. A series of long
vertical flames sucked into pipes could work
as the columns of a heater-railing. Maybe you could play with
sucking flames into different
shapes of tube-lets, or sub-tubes (what do they call the fractally
things on feathers -- barbules? -- which brings up something else
to experiment around with: fractal tubing) to optimize their
responsiveness to the sound waves being played into the
tube.
