If I have lots of browser windows open and lots of word processor windows open and lots of...etc
it would be nice to right-click a taskbar button and give it my own name
[link]
I hereby name this button "Geoff". |
How it that going to help you if you name them all "[mapquest]"? |
One could probably do a pretty good job naming them automatically after document and application. |
My taskbar shows the file name or application name if there is no file. |
I sympathize with [mapquest] because if you have files named "Company Sales Report 1", "Company Sales Report 2" and "Company Sales Report 3", the taskbar buttons cut off file name so you can't tell one button from another. |
So, an option to display the titles backward? |
That helps, but you could be even more complicated. Take all the names in all the labels. Find the words that they have in common. Abbreviate those words as long as you don't abbreviate different common substrings the same way. |

Company Sales Report 1, 2, and 3
could turn into CSR 1, 2, and 3. |

I was thinking about something similar, but more drastic: filter out everything that is common among the file names. Your way seems better suited to the real world. |
