Just aim your remote at the offending car and the press the button. BAM! The stereo is instantly silenced/ruined.

Ideally, the device would also work on cellphones and pages in movie theaters, libraries, etc. |

Too little too late, but.... |
This is easily done with a CB radio and small linear amplifier.. Not only can you just blot out the sounds, but you can also add your own colorful comments for all passengers and pedestrians within earshot to hear.. |
Just keying up next to the car can also cause EXTREME feedback, usually resulting in the car's occupants frantically covering their ears while the driver fumbles for the volume knob.. |
Sounds like a job for an EMP gun. |
Phoenix: our lab unit does this nicely, but it's bulky and uses quite a lot of mains power. You would have to give up most of your boot (trunk). The CB idea works well, too, but not quite so effective against CD players and tapes as broadcast recievers. |

Perhaps if you used some large 5-
20kV capacitors and charged it off
the vehicle's generator. a coil
about 20cm long and 5 cm wide
should be enough (when coupled
with 50kV of electricity) to blast
through a small faraday cage and
fuck up tvs. |
so uh, you want a directed emp antenna? |
Rather than seek to DESTROY the stereo, how plausible might it be to just 'splash' it, i.e. have a device scan a wide range of frequencies until it finds a frequency that causes audio to come out of the stereo, as often happens on my PC when a taxicab goes by. |
Once you have hijacked their stereo, you could ask them nicely to turn it down, or loudly embarass them over their own stereo, which would most likely achieve the desired result of having them turn it down. |

My Grandad baked this one. Of course this method
wouldn't work on non-radio broadcasts (i.e. CDs or
whatever) but here it is regardless: his neighbors kept
listening to their radio too loud, so he hooked up an
antenna to his trusty Ford coil (basically a big step-up
transformer/oscillator) and jammed their radio any time it
got too loud. He had a bit of a passive aggressive streak, I
don't think he ever told them he was doing it. |

[Dragonboy] I don't mean to be judgemental but if your
loud music is ruining my enjoyment of my own music or
God forbid, the glorious sound of nature then you are by
your own definition...fill in the blank. And buy some good
headphones, I recommend Sennheiser studio monitors.
Then you can crank your music in Church if you want to. |

At the sound pressure levels that some car stereos are operated at it seems that the only enjoyment comes from how disruptive it is to other people. It's a high tech form of bullying--especially when it is done in residential areas. |

head-phones are illegal to wear while driving... plus they DO NOT make any sort of bass that a sub produces... |
The point, of course, is that one would wear the headphones at home, and not in their car. This would give them ample time to listen to their music at whatever volume they wish while at home, then leaving them satisfied to listen to the music in their cars at a reasonable volume. I'm no prude, but I do enjoy being able to listen to my own music without having it overpowered by a gentleman 6 cars down from me in traffic. |
I had considered other electronic counter-measures, too, like a very high-power directional (radar-like) RF transmitter. |
Does anyone know of a device to white noise or take out an audio amplifier. I have a neighbor that likes to party loudly at 1:30 am.
Pissed off! |
//Does anyone know...// The classical solution is to buy a bigger amplifier and play opposing genre music... then work out your differences in the holding cell when all your neighbours gang up on you. |

I've never heard it put this way, but it's so
true. It's just a way for some people to
impose their will on others. |

You are assuming that after listening to loud music at home they can still hear quieter music in their car. It's a one-way street: once you regularly listen to music at a certain volume, you can't go quieter. It's called "loss of hearing (and brain cells)". |
Such a device already exists. It is called an M67 fragmentation grenade. |

I really need one of these remotes.
Sick (literally, not only figuratively) of being assaulted by all these inconsiderate subwoofer bullies all day (and night) long. |
