Undercapitalization is one of the major factors preventing
businesses in Europe and the US from expanding rapidly to
meet demand as the economy starts to recover. This can
turn
a boom-and-bust cycle into a bust-and-bust one, where
companies cannot pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
I
suggest, therefore, that this problem be addressed.
iTunes
becomes Itunes, eBay becomes Ebay, and so forth. Far
better.

Perhaps the day for overcapitalization has finally arrived. |

That way companies could double their brand awareness overnight. |

An easier way might just be to introduce a quite fine-grained standards system rigged to undermine the non-compliant. |
|
|
1. All products must get a star rating indicating quality relative to other similar products from a local standards testing authority. The default label (for non-compliant products) would say eg.
"Non compliant with standards:
Rating: __ __ __ __ __ *" - only it would be a half star in red.
-- Two benefits would flow |
|
|
.. i.. Local quality products would at least stand out the way they should. (But that segment of manufacturing has already been killed off, and the way to buy the very best stuff is to buy second-hand). |
|
|
.. ii .. The standards industry, itself, is intrinsically domestic.
-- The main cost? A few sales to merchantilists, maybe. |
|
|
2. The manufacture pays for the quality tests. |
|
|
3. Welfare/Aid contributions required for things produced in low-wage/ low-benefits environments. (Enough to distribute among the affected to equalise living standards -- and also provide even more aid agency employment). This kind of manufacturing just brings down the ultimate standard of living of everyone, so disincentivise it. Direct union control over workers rights issues might do less harm than good here, even. |
|
|
4. I forget and ... hey! wake up! Boredom is no excuse! |
|
|
Nice thing about this idea is that not only is it self-serving; it's also Good and Right. There's no better handmaiden to hypocrisy than righteousness. |
|

(And my apologies for my current lack of levity. I'm working on it. For instance I go to the mirror, pull a sincere face, and then laugh at it. Trouble is one can't do that all day. When you hit about 6 guffaws-for-nothing per day, they start to look at you like you need to go back inside.) |
|

I've tried pulling a sincere face. Bastard hit me. |

Hmm, use capitalisation as some form of company health indicator... |

Several case studies have indicated that this proposed solution would have a miniscule effect on the economy. |

I'm not convinced your scheme is going to do as much
to increase
capitalization as you'd hoped. Vis-à-vis the examples
you gave,
current reports indicate a net capitalization of
between 16.67% and
25%, with the former tending towards the lower end of
this range
and the latter towards the higher end. It's nearly
impossible to
predict all of the effects that implementing such a
plan would
have, of course, but a cumulative frequency analysis
would seem
to indicate a marginal gain in capitalization of at most
20
parts per
thousand, with a 2% margin of error. |
|
|
Basicallyunless I'm misunderestimating your proposal
I believe
all you're really accomplishing is to shift capitalization
around a
bit. |

Market research indicates the a certain online auction site would benefit from renaming to E'bay gum to corner the Lancastrian market. |

<trumpet plays "wah, waah, waaah> |

how about, in the spirit
of distribution, and on the model of Internet->internet, and
under the name of uncapitalization, they change eBay to
ebay, iTunes to itunes and United States to united states? |

(and this capitalisation misses the point. there should be no capital, and so no capitalisation. and there should also be no more night so everyone can be more productive.) |
|

<notices lack of capitalization in both "

What we need is a third case. Hypercapitals.
These are letters that are capitals only in the third
dimension. |
|
|
Of course that brings on the question of the
proper exploration and denotion of N dimensions
in letter case. 4-dimensional letters would be so
much more expressive than 3, which have much
more potential than flat typfaces. Given enough
dimensions to reserve for descriptive capacity,
one word could be worth a thousand pictures. |
|
|
Another direction would be to have capital letters
built out of ASCII stacks of lower or mixed-case
letters, perhaps nested, telling entire stories in
single words... |

I THINK THIS IDEA IS DISCRIMINATORY AGAINST BUSINESSES HEADQUARTERED AND/OR OPERATING IN NORFOLK, NORTHUMBRIA, LINCOLNSHIRE AND FIFE. |

And is that supposed to be a bad thing? |

On a somewhat unrelated note, did you know that the United Kingdom has TWO capitals? |
|
|
I did not say anything about the hb being a
pun...and there is no capitalization here either. The
idea is just a bad pun. I don't capitalize my moniker
because I'm not an ego-oriented bitch. |

From the observation of a self-proclaimed expert

multidimensional linguistics, Tesla's joke is entirely
different, having its capitals entirely in the
eastern
sector of every word. |
