This could be done with new safe airships which are yet to be built.
There would be scheduled departure time from certain locations like Singapore for example.
The trip would be done without assistance from motors and wind would take the airship over totally random route.
The trip would last
about week and after the week the airship would go under power to closest big commercial airport where passengers would fly back home or continue their holiday.
The airship would have enough food supplies and people would have enough clothing to cover the weather at random destination.
Going with the wind would take the predictability out of travel and obviously this type of travel would be for the more adventurous travellers.

Love it. Can I book tickets on a lay away plan, or wait, I'll just use my Airmiles and bring a chute for when they run out. |
No need for parachute as you could use a rope ladder once close to the ground. |
Nice idea [Pellepeloton].
To expand on [2 fries]s anno, why not make it a no- set- price tour?
Each traveller pays what they can for the adventure, and when their
ticket expires they have to vacate! Via parachute
or rope ladder if
close to the ground. |

Can we get a program for the airlines where I pay a set price and am assigned a random destination? |
I like the idea, but depending on the length of travel, this may not be too random. wind paterns can be predicted in advance with reasonable accuracy over very short timescales. over long timescales though, the idea is much more interesting since the sensitive dependance of our weather system would rear its ugly head. |
also, what sort of airship are we talking about here? blimp or zepplin? something new? that'll effect the randomness of travel also. |
It has to be some lighter than air airship like Zeppelin. With new technology it will be safer as well. That kind of airship would drift with the winds and by varying travelling height it would make random travel possible. |

"Excuse me sir but your ticket expires today. As we are now above the central mongolian steppes we would like to offer you this complementary hunting knife and box of matches." |
Perfect holiday for survivalists and commandoes? |
That was the only reservation I had about the whole idea, the "complimentary hunting knife and box of matches" part. |
I'd view that as a fun adventure in California eight months out of the year, but in Mongolia it's a different ball game. |
Hot air balloon would not be safe enough and also limited in load carrying capacity to fit in any luxuries(necessities)for weeks travel. |
Take out predictability? You are pretty sure to be in an air ship for a week. And on not so windy weeks, you will even be howering over the same damn patch of grass. |
If the idea becomes popular, with the increasing air traffic, you could soon make money selling people cheaper plane tickets by companies that do not have special baloon free routs and are prone to air collisions. |
Air travel would probably decrease in the future because of fuel price hikes. People would still travel but possibly using more sail power and in this case wind power. |
