REM Camera Alarm clock

Watch you sleep, record REM pattern, wake you up at right time

So there's the whole thing about when you're sleeping you cycle in and out of different states. There's the famous REM state, and other ones that lead up to that. Another element of sleep is that depending on which cycle you wake up on, you can be tired or energized for the rest of the day. For example, you'll be really tired for the rest of the day if you are woken in the middle of REM sleep, it's the worst stage to wake up in. One of the stages is the best to wake up in, I can't remember which (or much of the details in general of this stuff)

Well, with modern computers and cameras, why can't we make a system of cameras that watches your eyes and face, and then recognizes what's going on, and then wake you up at the best stage to wake up? You could set the alarm clock, and then it'll wake you up as late as possible up to that time, but while you're in the best state to be woken up. You'd always get the best sleep.

Of course, it won't work perfect, what with waking up and then sleeping, or going to the bathroom, tossing and turning with someone, etc. But it'll still be good.

If you believe that sleep phase is correlated to the amount you move in bed, which many people do, there are several smart phone apps that do just this. You put them under your pillow and they use the accelerometer. I've never tried it.

       It's not the same idea

If the idea is "an alarm clock that wakes you at the most appropriate time during your sleep cycle", then this is baked.

If the idea is "Knowing that there is a best time to wake someone during their sleep cycle, detect this phase by processing a video feed", then this may not be baked, but likely due to the availability of less technically challenging ways to detect the appropriate sleep phase.

       Great idea, but not new.

The //best stage to wake up// will definitly make me late for work!

Presumably it notes the rate at which the eyes move, and makes its decision based on the inverse of the movement's period, then queries a central database, naturally called "Kenneth".
