So when you pull up in an unfamiliar car, you can see if you guessed right which side the petrol goes in!

Or fuel lines that will wrap around to the other side of the car (as helpfully pointed out by a fuel pump attendant the other day). |

pimp my pump - someone explain what that might mean! |

don't you just hate it, when you park your car at a petrol station and you are 2" short of the petrol tube reaching your aperture. |

if I understand this right, this is a useful idea. |

Some modern cars (Fords) have a small triangle on the dashboard pointing in the direction where the pump goes... This is to increase the probability of a model being taken up by the lucrative car-hire firms... Unfortunately most people don't even notice the triangle, and if they do, they don't know what it means. |

This has been done atleast 5 times in the past. (Once by your's truely.) |

The solution, as bris wisely reminded us all, was the old middle of the car under the plate location. Classy, and oh so retro. |

Oh and Egbert also suggested, I think, the solution of really long pump hoses. (Hey what the hey, where the hell is Egbert?) |
|
|
Methinks a tiny mirror glued to the side of the pump is gonna work out so much cheaper than lengthening the hose, moving the petrol tank on the car or fitting lights to the dashboard.
Also stretching the hose across the car leaves dirty marks and trying to jam the nozzle in at a funny angle can scratch the paint (and probably isn't too safe).

Nice lo-tech solution. I still maintain that cars should be built with a hole on each side, just so that you can use whichever pump is most convenient rather than queueing for a right-hand pump when there is already a left hand pump free. |

In my twisted mind I envisaged some kind of personal fart viewing device |

I drive several different cars; my solution (rather than installing a mirror on each) is a post-it (with an arrow indicating where the filler is) that I apply to the dash. |
