A normal hair scrunchie but helical used to keep long hair in a pony tail is comprised of a bimetallic strip at its core designed to assume various shapes at different temperatures.
Go from pony-tail to a bun almost instantly. Pippi Longstocking one second... princess Leia the next at the push
of a button.

Brilliant idea, but I'm not sure bimetallic is the way to go (because it
will always stabilise somewhere between "head" & "air"
temperatures).
Perhaps a micro-mechanical solution would be better? Twist a knob
to change the helix alignment (probably 2 knobs: "initial radius" &
"angle", unless you want taper too...). |

There is a thing called a Hobermann Sphere where something the size of a peanut-butter jar can mechanically scrunch, in a vaguely umbrella-ribs like way down to the size of a quarter, and then pull out to be the size of a peanut butter jar. So, you could make a baguette-shaped hobermann (( that scrunches down to a skinny ballpoint-pen width form when compressed. |

Some talented designer could probably give it another roll-up proclivity to make it look like a cinnamon bun. |

Because the human head is a significant point of heat loss ... thus the endless litany of whining complaints, "I'ts cold ... why can't we have the heating on ...? " |
What's wrong with hats ? Why can't females understand the difference between "The air temperature is low" and "I perceive the air temperature as low " ? |
No, definitely the "whining about being cold" thing. Just because it's a trifle ... brisk ... for the season. It's not like there's actually ice on the inside of the windows. Well, not much ... and it soon scrapes off if you need to see out, and besides, there's cameras and stuff ... |
Even reasonable arguments like "but having the heating on adds to global warming" doesn't seem to get a very positive reception ... in fact, it merely elicits verbal abuse and actual physical violence. We call that selfish.
Think of the poor Polar Bears ... |

How would you get to a Princess Leia hairstyle by manipulating
a helix? |
um... the double helix of course. |
Genetic hairstyling, then. |

[pertinax] sometimes Leia is referred to as having two cinnamon buns on the side of her head @ |

Not many people know that Admiral Motti was an avid user of Grecian 2000 to re-tint hs hair; but it made him look a bit odd. |
That's why Vader said to him "I find your lack of greys disturbing... " |
And a fine entry into the "scrunchie" offerings. Love. I love a
good-fitting scrunchie. |
