Quite frequently you're reading an article on a website and incredibly, the highlights of the article, sometimes even the destination website they're writing about, is not linked.
Using autosummarize and context sensitive ad type technology, have the browser automatically come up with the list of
items I'd want to hyper link to or search if the editor had done their job.
The new links should appear on the side, similar to Google's context sensitive ads

Much Ado about Smart Tags

A New Hew and Cry: Google's Autolink

How would it know which things I'd want to hyperlink to? In the browser configuration I'm currently using, I right click on something of interest and do a "Google Search" on it. |
This sounds like a tool that would be best put to use by an editor. |
I should clarify that I wouldn't want the links to go in inline. I was thinking of something more similar to how Google displays context sensitive ads. |
So, instead of ads, it could list the top ranked link returned from a google search? |
It would be a list of links containing: |
Any companies mentioned in the article or searchlinks thereof |
Any websites mentioned in the article |
Search links for names mentioned in the article |
Retrieved search links as [half] describes |

Have you checked out the new Firefox browser, theircompetitor? It's free, is pretty much the same as IE to use, but has some interesting extra features on it as well. |
You can also load up extensions to it as well, and customize it to your heart's content. For instance, I've got it set up so that I can highlight a non-hyperlink URL address (www.something.com), right click it, and it'll act just like a normal hyperlink. I can also select a word and get an online definition, or search for it on google - all with a single click. Pretty smart stuff. |

[theircompetitor] I really like this, but I'd rather the context-sensitive hyperlinks were embedded in the text (i.e. the browser starts to hyperlink words which are not hyperlinked in the original to sites it thinks will be relevant based on my browsing history). |

[lostdog] Firefox rocks.. |

Google's Autolink feature? (from the inventor of MS smart tags who later left MS and went to Google.) |
well.. Smart Tags tried miserably, but Autolink I'd not seen. I'd like an autolink that was truly context-sensitive (MY context) so if it adds a link to a shop to buy something, it should be my local one. |
I'm not sure why you would characterize their performance as miserable. Smart Tags never went to market but they worked darn well. |
Instead why not use Alexa toolbar or Yoono toolbar which will give relevant data about the site you are browsing and related sites. There is another tool from www.answers.com when installed will enable you to search from a selected word in any application you are using. |
