The problem of warm beer has plagued mankind since 4000 BC. Many solutions have been suggested before (including here).
A lot of people put most of the beer in the fridge and one or two in the freezer for 15 minutes, since they don't need all the beer to be cold right away. I want to take
this a step further. You don't need a whole beer to be cold, you just need one gulp.
I propose a device that attaches securely to the top of the beer, consisting of a helical copper tube surrounded by a tub of antifreeze. The beer flows through the tube before going down your throat. Depending on the size of the device, it might take two to fully cool a warm beer.
You keep a bunch of these in the freezer, and use them while the rest of your beer cools.

I knew someone who had a similar system: he had a plastic "double-glazed" tankard full of some liquid which he kept in the freezer. The main selling point, apparently, was that it allowed you to cool drinks without having the diluting effect of ice cubes. |

I've gone to ice dentures to cool my beverages. Works great on beer; soup is hell on them though. |

I find it unlikely that out of all the world's problems the one Ms Ono would choose to solve would be warm beer. Especially as she probably drinks something far more elegant and sophisticated. |

Yeah, the "cooling without dilution" effect is what I'm after. The double walled tankard you describe still tries to cool the entire beer. Since you can use several of my gulp coolers to cool a single beer, they could be made small enough to be practical. |

I know this isn't what you're looking for but thought it might help someone.Method I use to keep beer cold enough on little ice. Works well for up to four people. Just use a six-pack size cooler with two or three trays of ice cubes over the minimum number of drinks. That would be one for each person. Add enough water to nearly cover. Properly done it will chill a hot beer in 20 minutes and last through a twelve pack. Now, unless they are all taken out at the same time, the trick is keeping track of what order they were added after the first ones are removed. After each one is removed it is replaced and a marker is placed on the lid to mark the next coldest drink. A coin works well for a marker but anything will do. Always move the marker one space in the same direction, clockwise or counter. I have a cooler that has a mark on one end of the lid. When there are only two using it the lid is rotated each time a drink is replaced, the mark indicates the cold one. Of coarse I always use an insulated drink holder to insure it stays cold 20-30 minutes. I know the freezer will chill a drink almost as fast but timing is critical. Drinks will be too cold or not cold enough. Ive practiced this for many years and havent found anything that works better. |
