Welcome to HB, krod. I don't want to be unkind but... this site is really more for inventions that have not been invented yet. There's already powdered cheese. Keep dreaming though. |

[darksasami], I don't like the way your link incorporates the word slurry into the production of cheese powder. It just doesn't seem right. |

The sachet that comes with Kraft Dinners? Sadly unavailable where I live. |

Actually, over Christmas I was in Phoenix, which is a big test market for some reason. One of the local grocery stores was selling microwave popcorn packets with a can of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese cheese powder. My mom snapped it up and threw away the popcorn--she's wanted to buy the powder by itself for years. |

Cheese food as opposed to cheese what? Cheese bircks, cheese cars? This always puzzles me and I'm slowly convincing myself that there's a 101 other uses for cheese that everyone else but me knows about. |

oneoffdave - the expression "cheese food" typically means that the stuff is a cheese-like substance that is generally considered safe to eat. An item can be labelled "cheese" only if it meets certain requirements regarding ingredients and methods. It just so happens that I've been making cheeses lately, so I know a bit about this. It is possible to make a true cheese, and then get it into a powdered form. However, much of the distinction between different kinds of cheeses has to do with the treatment of the curd. So, once powdered, it would be difficult to tell the difference between, say, a cheddar and a monterey jack (and don't get hung up on the colors - most yellow-colored cheeses result from adding annatto to the milk). |

And yes, there are at least 101 other uses for cheeses, and we're not going to tell you what they are. I can say that a good number of them are related to explosives (my current field of expertise). |

Anyway, I don't know why I'm writing so much on an idea that jutta has already M-F-D'd. I haven't written anything here in months, and nobody's going to see this now. The presence of my absence shall go nearly unnoticed, like the faint hint of a lingering flatulation in an empty room. |

Hey Quarterbaker, what s your line of work? Cheese and explosives - sheesh kebab...! |

On very rare occasions, I've seen powdered cheese (i.e. not grated parmesan) cheese for sale by kraft. It's pretty much the same as what is in the packets for Kraft Mac and Cheese. |

Cheese powder is very much baked by all the food ingredients companies in the world. It's cheap and easily made and it's used in all sorts of products. |

I actually FOUND this at my local grocer. Its the stuff right outta the Mac 'n Cheese packages. I'll see if I can't post a picture. |
