A compact prepackaged explosive charge issued free of charge to car and truck drivers and motorcyclists, designed to produce an intense radial shockwave. Placed in a water-filled pothole, it widens an deepens the hole by 300%, without dispersing any fragments outside the confines of the hole, and rendering
the road entirely impassible.
And then the local road authority have to come along and fix it, rather than ignoring it for another 18 months.
Penile code violations ala Wanksy.

The somewhat forlorn hope is that a local councillor's chauffeur-driven limo will plunge into the abyss, ideally ending his or her life, but failing that distracting them a little from the endless round of carping, self-aggrandisement, infighting, cronyism and blatant nepotism for just long enough for them to cease playing pocket billards and spend taxpayers money on something the taxpayers actually want and approve of, rather than squandering it on grandiose ego-massaging projects which are doomed to failure and ridicule even before the feasibility study reports that the whole concept is ludicrous, impractical, and a complete waste of resources. |

If that happened, the money would be spent on (a) a memorial plaque (b) a full investigation of the accident (c) a bunch of flowers tied to the nearest tree or lamp-post, distracting drivers from the actual hazard and (d) additional road signage warning drivers of the hazard. |

A better solution, surely, would be to design a shaped charge that, when placed in the pothole, shears off a sloping layer of tarmac such that the pothole becomes merely a shallow depression. |

Alternatively, a large disc of thermite could be used to simply melt the roadway, allowing gravity to level it before it cools and re-sets. |

"There was a series of bad ones in my commute home - I interwebbed up the responsible authorities and sent them messages informing them I was going to plant trees in them."

^ That is an interesting idea, if property owners were responsible for road repair... fix it or we put a tree in the hole and a bypass in your front yard. |

//There are several dirt roads in the same area that are maintained by property owners, each owning the section just in front of their parcel of land.//
Are you talking about MB's section of road in front of his estate that has a toll booth at each end? |

I can assure you, when I have my people do a cavity search, they don't use any sort of easement. |

They don't ? What do you call that thing like a pair of pliers with prongs on the side, then ? |

I will use a real world example to point out a flaw. |

the road I live on washes out every spring.
this was ignored.
The mail person totaled there car in it a few years back
and
sued the county for it. Now my road has a sing that says
road closed use at own risk every spring and it's still
washes
out every year. |

The lyrics are ok... but you can't really dance to it. |

No, sounds like one of those Folk song dirges beloved of the finger-in-the-ear and Arran sweater brigade, along the lines of "Owwww, my pig is dead, my house fell down, the mine's fallen in and the squire's raped my daughter, owwwww ...." |
