A simple additive that turns bright red upon contact with urea. Guaranteed to be the life of your pool party *and* to scare the bejesus out of whoever 'lets go' first.

Mother:"Everyone out Jimmy's gone and peed in the pool"

       Kid:"Feeling woozy..."

       *falls down dead*

Mother:"Ohhh. Thats what that red stuff was."

And do we have an idea what chemical it would be that was non-toxic?

//And do we have an idea what chemical it would be that was non-toxic?//

Considering the toxic cocktail that most pools represent, does it really matter?
nuclear hobo, Jun 09 2007

[nuclear-hobo] intaking chlorine would make you sick. Intaking a chemical that turns red when mixed with urine might just kill you

Hasn't every drop of water been through millions of kidneys by this point?

wow. I was looking for this online - I thought to myself, he's got to be wrong about it.

I've just realized that I was lied to my entire childhood about making pee pee in the pool; a lie that I have believed until this very day.

Thank you, [hobo] for destroying all that was precious to me.

oh, and [+] by the way. :-D

is pee cleaner than pool water?

i read, somewhere out on the internets, that if ya don't have sterile liquid to flush out a wound, pee is a good alternative.

wondering about the truth of that?

My optician once berated me when I said that, if I had to remove and replace a contact lens whilst out and about, I would use spit to lubricate it. She said I'd be better off using urine, which was sterile.

I tried to explain that I get enough strange looks when I spit on a contact lens.
