- Phillip, can you come down to the garage?
- Dad, I’m working on that English paper right now.
- Come on, it’ll only take ten minutes and bring your bike helmet. I want you to test ride my latest invention.
- All right, I’m here now. What should I do this time? What is this thing?
- Good, stand here on the foot rests and hold the handlebars. It’s a personal transporter and a toy, a mix of a unicycle, a pogo stick and a top.
- A top?
- Yeah, it’s like the metal top I had as a boy where you pushed down the handle and its twisted shaft made the top rotate.
- Right, and like the wooden pogo stick you rode bare-foot ten miles to school in blizzards.
- I’ll ignore that. Now listen up Son, what you do is start bouncing up and down with the pogo shaft which causes the enclosed 5 kg rotor under your feet to start spinning. Well, get started.
- O…OK…now…what?
- Now when the green light goes on, keep the brake lever on the handle closed while pulling up levers A and B. They lift the two kickstands.
- Done…wow…I’m balanced.
- Sure, it’s like a gyroscope keeping you stabile over one wheel. Keep pumping the pogo and ease off on the brake. Excess power will be steered to the wheel.
- Awe…some…I’m moving…forward!
- Now don’t worry about the slope down the driveway, Son. You can rest and brake, and your momentum is transmitted to the gyro like regenerative braking to a flywheel.
- Hey Dad, what do I do at the bottom? I’ve gotta turn here!
- Oh, I hadn’t thought of that. Uh, Phillip, try letting down one of the kick stands. That oughta do it.

Trampofoil Water Pogovehicle http://www.trampofoil.com/
The Trampofoil allows you to travel 7knts+ over water. Sadly you have to launch off a dock. [macrumpton, Oct 05 2004, last modified Oct 21 2004]

Funniest thing I've read in ages.
Where's the piccy, Johnny?

In a way, this is similar to a bicycle (or unicycle), except instead of pedalling by pushing first one foot down then the other, you repeatedly put both feet down.

       Three hours later....

       "Phillip,your dinners ready...Phillip?...PHILLIP?!"

I second the fantastic illustration. Wow.

So, 'zactly how many ideas you got there in HB top 20 [FarmerJohn]?
dpsyplc, May 13 2004

Oddly, none of the top 20 are his. I would've expected at least 5 to be.
RayfordSteele, May 13 2004

But can it rest at a 45 degree angle on the head of a nail? ++
sartep, May 13 2004

Does it have to be purple? It reminds me of the creepy purple jujube from McDonalds. Grimace? was that its name?
schematics, May 13 2004

       Purple's fine. Great, even.
bristolz, May 13 2004

I'm waiting for the monkey powered deluxe version. Man those little monkeys love to bounce...
Captain_Ignorant, May 14 2004

[dpsyplc] No, none of my mediocre inspirations have been blockbuster stuff, but baking gives me a high better than s...everal other pursuits.
FarmerJohn, May 14 2004

Big name.. Clearly worth a bun.
magic_ki, May 14 2004

Punk rockers from the eighties will emerge as a new power in the world of transport. That's worth the bun alone!

It was a feeble try at Latin.
FarmerJohn, May 14 2004

[RayfordSteele] No, actually no single person has more than one idea in the top twenty - Oh, hang on, yes they do...
hippo, May 14 2004

<brazen brag> I had two in the top ten until I got rid of them.
bristolz, May 14 2004

Yeah, and why did you *do* that? Couldn't you have warned us?
RayfordSteele, May 14 2004

I had a top tenner, which was one of the stupidest ideas ever posted here. Just goes to show.

Nice illo... pity about that floor design, though. Ouch.
