From countdown to launch, situationally appropriate
background
music
plays through every step of the flight. For instance,
the Blue Danube
plays upon
reaching orbit a-la 2001.
Pre launch: Reflective, soul searching, longing.
Count down: Tense.
Launch: Adrenalin pumping, chase scene
music.
Reaching orbit: Majestic, beautiful.
Moon or Mars landing: Epic.
Not just for effect, the music could adjust adrenaline
levels of astronauts and support teams, lowering or
raising them as necessary. The example I found is a little
bombastic in parts, it would have to not be too
distracting. No cymbal crashes or anything.
Not finding a single example that's just right. I'll keep
looking.
This example isn't horrible.

Your life could have a soundtrack

Or there could be a soundtrack to your life

And in case something goes wrong...

In a studio next to mission control, have John Williams and a full orchestra playing the mission theme music and maybe composing or varying the theme in real time. They could have a direct feed off the mission status displays. |
|
|
Super Mario Bros. underground music would be
perfect for a lunar mission for some unexplainable
reason. |

The Wrath of Khan has a pretty good track as well,
being I think the only Horner work on Star Trek. |

Is it ok to post somebody's idea if you give them full credit
for it? This should be a standard thing for all important
events. |
|
|
I'm putting this idea up. I'm not sure if it's against the rules
so let's find out. |
|
|
// Is it ok to post somebody's idea if you give them full credit for it? // |
|
|
Yes. As long as inspiration, content, or other Prior Art are fully acknowledged, it's not copying, plagiarism, or stealing. |
|
|
Authors quote from other authors all the time. |
|
|
It's only passing off someone else's work as your own that's naughty. |

I watched NASA TV for a while on cable. It was slow, but interesting. I think a 30 second delay on the broadcast would give the AI time to customize techno music to go with the gradual stuff going on. |

iow there is already music related to space exploration both
in (a) actual music associated with actual acts of space
exploration and (b) music which is associated with space
exploration in a more imaginative sense. |

How would this work in, for example, a Challenger
disaster situation? Would there be a sudden lurch in
tempo?
In principle the role of the orchestra
in this idea is not completely unlike the job of
cinema pianist in the days of silent movies, playing
along to the action, improvising a soundtrack while
looking at the action on the screen.

They'd do that record scratch thing they used to do in
comedy movie trailers. |
|
|
That's horrible, (slaps own wrist). Too soon? |
|
|
Hey, I'm sure the brave astronauts we lost would have
laughed at that one. |
|
|
They would probably chuckle. In that job, you quickly develop a very, very dark sense of humour. |
|
|
It's the constant proximity of death that does it. |
|

I'm only signing up for this if it includes the theme music for
Elite. |

If so, memories of sweet 8 bit goodness. |
|
|
The very same. It's now available (as Oolite) for Mac, and is
very authentic. |
