Dutch, practical, beautifully handcarved and varnished, comfortable boots, made from blonded, lightweight wood. For wearing while you have your finger stuck in a dyke, in the forest where giant weasels rule.

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but a pun seldom has healthy offspring.
MaxwellBuchanan, May 04 2012

It started when my daughter asked me why the Dutch made their shoes from wood, and asked whether they'd be heavier than leather. I replied that they could be made from light, Northern hemisphere timber, rather than our sometimes- heavier-than-water hardwoods.

The pun came afterwards, which is awfully considerate of me, I think.

It also occurred to me I've seen plain clogs, but never fancy, carved ones.

Erm, perhaps you could flog the idea to whoever Jeffrey Campbell is..linki

I just can't see myself in those. Probably too tall for the mirror, if I was to wear them.

//Necessity may be the mother of invention, but a pun seldom has healthy offspring// - and anyway, the "finger stuck in a dyke" joke is pretty old

How do you bend your ankles to slip them on?
RayfordSteele, May 04 2012

They seem rather limited in their functionality. Just a little though. They would be good for fixing the broken shower head, and the above mentioned causes. Oops, did I say "cause". As in Occupy Your Boots Day?

       >How do you bend your ankles to slip them on?

They could be done with a clamshell split, or with a section of the back. But still they'd be tricky to walk in due to lack of ankle/toe articulation.

Doc Martens. Train cute mustelids in first aid so they can come to your rescue if you have a health issue in the remote wilderness

Mine Partens. Apparently there's a Parten town/farm(?) in Texas...

Or even (shudders) Mime Martens. As for getting the pine martens to wear the 4 white gloves or getting them to do do the "umbrella in a high wind" bit, I'm not sure which would be trickier...

You know, this started out as a totally serious idea about very uncofortable wooden boots, but it seems to be getting derivatively silly...

       Cofort is overrated.

I dunno. If I have a fort after The Armageddon I would probably prefer to sure it - with the right sorts of people of course.

       >totally serious idea about very uncofortable wooden boots

Is that actually possible? I woodn't believe it.

I think there should be some kind of Halfbakery idea GPS so it could be quantified just how far off the idea the annos get, and possibly a fabulous trophy (colander sprayed with gold paint, with a bit of tinsel) for the worst/most talented offender...
not_morrison_rm, May 07 2012

I've always seen anno-thread diversion as sort of a specialty of mine. Not an exclusive one, mind you, not by any means...
Alterother, May 07 2012

I'll accept the award for "worst", with pride.
blissmiss, May 07 2012

Is that "person who strays the least from nominal direction for a post" or person who strays the most?

Or is that what you think I think you think?
