Pedalo Hard disk

Stay fit while running your pc

Connect a pedal system to your hard drive via a system of cogs, to keep fit whilst running your pc. Fit a device to increase the RPM and you're there.
An emergency back-up would kick in if the RPM fell too low.

Redundant? http://www.halfbake...ed_20Health_20Clubs
I'm sure there's been a few other ideas of the Use-A-Bicycle-To-Power-X kind. [Guy Fox, Sep 08 2002, last modified Oct 17 2004]

Cute. I like the situation: lewisgirl spots an extr. fit gentleman in the park with quadriceps in bas-relief -- sidles up -- "Hi there. This may sound odd but... you interested in baking, at all?"
"Somewhat, cutie. But not as interested as I am in boning."

We done this one, I'm sure. I'll go look for it.

       I second DrCurry's suspicion..

I'm pretty sure we haven't done a direct mechanical connection.

Wow, +2... I thought I just made this up then never posted it as it seemed like it was going nowhere.
One of my better mistakes.

At five to fifteen thousand RPM you're going to need some wicked gearing.

Will my MP3's play like 45's at 33 when I get tired?

       why not just a pedal-powered monitor ?

       [bliss] Hard drives have steppers.

You could have a stiction setting to adjust the workout rigor . . . .

I can't wait defrag my hard drive with this system. Or better yet, I'll do a virus scan, defrag, and chkdsk. I think the device needs to be easily removable for it to be truly useful because even if the emergency back-up kicks in while I'm not exercising, I don't want this pedal equipment in my workspace.

       //You could have a stiction setting //

Is that in the options menu? ;)

       I think it's standard in the IBM Ultrastars . . .

Shucks... I just had an idea very close to this and found this one while searching for redundancy. My idea was pedal power for a TV, like [UB] said. For all those couch potatoes who say they *want* to exercise but swear they have no time to. All ya need is the right motivation...

This seems to be in the wrong category.
