Pagoda sheds

More culture specific sheds

I noticed that there don't seem to be any culture specific sheds and it seems a pity not to display local culture.

I suggest pagoda sheds for East Asia, semi-detached sheds for England, step-pyramid sheds for central America and so on.

Obviously you don't have to chose one from your own culture, I personally would be prefer a step-pyramid one, so on the midsummers day at sunrise I could ascend to the summit whilst repeating the ritual chant of "The secateurs, now where did I put them, I had them only last week.."

Obvious non-geographical cultural sheds would be the Klein bottle shed for geometrists, step-pyramids with declining prime numbers of subsheds on each level for mathematicians and so on..

then there's the one with a rotting gambrel roof, with something gibbering in an attic for the Arkham market, gothic ones for high church of England types, the recursive shed for fractal types and so on.

Somebody in Maine is making 'Hobbit Hole' sheds, with round doors and actually very good Shire-ish architecture. I'm not sure how long they can keep it up before they get their asses sued off, but the things are quite the local fad, and a considerable step up quality from typical Maine lawn ornamentation.

They also make very good Skinner boxes, I hear.

If only it were possible to purchase TARDIS sheds, which had a 1.5m x 1.5m footprint yet were capable of containing an unlimited number of lawnmowers ...

Ah, sir that's the Type 210 fractal shed, can contain a virtually infinite number of lawnmowers...if I can just show you the one over here..

No..I'm sorry no unaccompanied entries into the fractal shed, not since Willikins of accounts went in there on his own, took him sixteen days to find his way out again...

but how many people have a cuboid car?

       <meaningful cough>

// Storage sheds are typically designed to maximize, go figure, storage capacity. //

Logically, then, sheds should be spheres, since they enclose the maximum volume for the minimum surface area.

// A pyramid or pagoda won't hold as much as a cube of the same height/width. [-] //

Working from the basis of the Platonic solids, is the objective to maximise usable volume in terms of area occupied, or volume enclosed per unit of structural material ?

Consider the yurt. Although its cultural origin would make it Mongol-specific, its present world-wide trendiness transcends cultural boundaries.

Shirley sheds should be hexagonal, and stacked vertically with the centre of one shed over the meeting point of three sheds in the layer below?

I'm planning an erection later this "summer" - I was thinking I might eshew the normal wooden frame covered with overlapping planks, and instead put up a mock-Edwardian shed with red-brick walls, tall(ish) ceilings (though it turns out I'm legally required to limit any construction to a height of 2.5m) and large, stained-glass windows. That might be a bit ambitious though, to be honest, I'll be pleased if it just stands up. Any ideas welcome!

//I'm planning an erection later this "summer"// - <not falling for obvious joke> Have a look at my shed on Flickr. I'll send you details and instructions if you like. You'll note that my shed uses some rather nice Victorian casement windows, which were rescued from a skip.</not falling for obvious joke>

[+] I like the idea but think there are some similar ideas out there. I would like mine to be a boat, so I could toss it in a lake when I felt like it.

In certain regions of the UK at the moment, all you would have to do is sit tight and the lake will come to you ...

       Lovely summer, innit ?
