LCD clock/watch displays are very cheap.

Why not make an overcoat that has a large LCD watch built into one cuff, protected in a tough rubberized surround ? No need to remove gloves, pull up sleeves, dig in pockets for phones - just look at your wrist.

It could have EL or LED backlighting, which could be recharged from photovoltaic epaulettes.

//Why not// well, perhaps because it would give the appearance of having a large LCD watch built into your overcoat? That in itself embodies several reasons.

And naturally bluetooth to your phone so it would always have the correct time and not need setting.

As long as the all-up cost of the accessory adds no more than about USD $3 to the price of the coat, for the entry-level version.

//integral// spelling inserted. An overcoat that changes form or density to the current time might be more advantageous.
