The window knocker consists of a life-size animatronic spacesuit gloved hand and forearm with a magnetic clamp and a cold-gas manouvering unit.

The idea is to attach the unit externally to an unmanned ISS resupply module.

On arrival, the unit discreetly detaches from the module and reattaches itself to the ISS.

After a suitable interval, determined by the crew rest periods, the unit stealthily makes its way over the hull, and starts to tap insistently on the window ...

       "There's, something... on the wing."

       Klingons on the starboard bow...

Why not an entire alien-shaped robot, knocking on the window?
Vernon, Jul 30 2016

       Credibility.

An "alien" is likely to produce a "Who's playing silly buggers ?" reaction; but a familiar, recognizable spacesuit is more likely to achieve the suspension of disbelief.

It might be more cost effective to simply have a squeegee on a pole appear and squeege over the windows.

"But Polish people need spacesuits, too ..." ?

Actually, the squeege idea is even better. After all, you're not going to want your windscreen cracked if you're in low Earth orbit. The idea of the crew frantically trying to find small change to pay off the itinerant window-washers adds immensely to the potential satisfaction.

What do the poles say about hilly and don ?

I don't know, [pop], what do the poles say about hilly and don ?
MaxwellBuchanan, Jul 30 2016

       I don't know either.

Poles come in three types: Bamboo, Softwoods ( Like pine ), and redwood to avoid insect damage. I tried to communicate with the poles, but like the song says "I talk to the trees, but they don't listen to me."

// Actually, the squeege idea is even better // ... you mean at every LEO orbit there should be a set of traffic lights complete with resident window smudgers?

Everyone experiences a mix of disbelief and anger when they get a parking ticket, this would be delightfully magnified in low Earth orbit.

In these uncertain times, perhaps we shouldn't think about fixing one of these outside a commercial airliner. Restrict it to business class and above obviously.
