A special attachment to a drill or blender which goes inside an orange and pulps it. Only one little hole remains to stick the straw in. Best served straight from the refrigerator, and no dirty glasses afterwards.

       Coolest!

S'gonna be pulpy. Might need a straw with a filter or some such. Plus though.

A bit like one of those 1980s rotating needle things for making omelettes without breaking the egg?
AbsintheWithoutLeave, May 08 2008

ideas like this get on my pip.

I'm sure I read somewhere about a straw with a serrated end that can be twisted into an orange, whisked and jiggled about in inside it, and then used to suck up all the orangey goodness. Might have dreamt it though, so [+] from me anyway.

       I think you're remembering a TV ad....

I like mine pulpy. You could always add some vodka.

//a straw with a serrated end that can be twisted into an orange//
[lostdog], I had that same dream! But I found no reference to the thing online (elusive keywords).

I owned one of those. They didn't really do much - it was just a short plastic tube, one edge serrated, with a rim to keep it on top of the orange. How this was ever successfully demoed to anyone is beyond me...

Ah, marketing. Like those toy trucks I used to want so badly, because in the commercial they went over the jump (on attempt number fifty, no doubt) and came down rolling on all four wheels.

[normzone] I'll be over--a lot of oranges grow near you!
+ btw

A bit like one of those devices for pulping the brains of a dead pharaoh before pulling them out through his nose?
pertinax, May 09 2008

The device referred to by Jutta was the Citrex Juicer made by the Popeil Brothers ,1951. I have a most excellent book on their products, called "But Wait! There's More!" and the Citrex is in it.

That nifty plastic device works rather well if you squeeze and roll the orange round on a hard surface a few time causing the pulp to get smashed and crushed first.
Jscotty, May 09 2008

The inside-the-eggshell-egg- scrambler was another Popeil deal.
nomocrow, May 09 2008

I remember using those Popeil Citrex extractors as a child (except mine were orange, and were labeled Minute Maid"). I think they're still somewhere in the back of one of my mother's kitchen drawers.

To use it, you'd first roll the orange around to break up the inside. Then, you'd use the device to cut a plug out of the skin. Once the skin plug was removed, you'd stick the extractor all the way in and drink.

At the time, I thought it was cool to drink right out of the orange. Now, it's more trouble than it's worth. I'd rather just cut the orange in half and squeeze it into a bowl.

possible name for marketing: orange eviscerator

Freeze the orange first - insta-slushy!

You can see all the sensual goodness of Judy Dentsch as an 80 year old virgin, sucking an orange in "Cranford" on PBS.
plynthe, May 22 2008

I used to eat oranges this way. Make a tiny hole in the skin and suck out all the juice, before ripping it apart and devouring the fleshy pulp.

       This is lovely!
