One Click Tracking Information Reveal Law

Law that states that if you have a website that tracks people's information, sells it, whatever, one simple button must be on the front page to reveal that information.

To be clear, this is to take a widely known to exist idea and codify into law this one change: One simple button must be in the lower right corner of the page that you click to see whatever tracking info the website is getting on you, where they're selling it etc.

The law would be to standardize this feature to make it actually usable, not something you'd have to hunt for, read the fine print about, fiddle around with.

Supposedly you can demand your FBI file (which I'm told I have having engaged in international trade) so I don't see why this shouldn't be demanded of private industries.

And if they have a problem with that, this is proof that it's needed.

To be clear, this existing feature on many sites is simplified and standardized and required by law.

       [marked-for-deletion] advocacy
Voice, Feb 27 2023

       Thank you for being brave enough to explain your bone Voice, I appreciate that.

       That being said, there is a category of proposed laws. Several dozen other proposed laws in this category.

       Advocacy would be "People should be nice", a law would be "Kill people for not being nice". A law would be a proposed method to achieve something, just saying things should be a certain way without saying how to achieve that would be advocacy. From the Help file:

       (things you can't do) "advocacy - the post promotes or protests an existing, often widely discussed, issue X that is very important to the author, without inventing new means to bring about or stop the discussed issue"

       In this case the issue is information being gathered and sold surreptitiously, methods of finding what how and when your information is sold varies from website to website and there is no law saying you even have to do so. This is a clear proposed solution that remedies that and I do believe it's a problem that does need a remedy.

       So fishbone accepted, (and like I said, respected) but gonna have to disagree with the MFD. Just going by what the HB rules specify.

       There are two possible reasons why you don't understand what I just said. One is that the words made no sense, the other is that they just make no sense to you.

       And boy this Trump thing really has turned into a cult.

Sounds like a new thing being invented to me. I'm not aware of any website having this (I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm mistaken).

       Thank you neut.

       //built into Safari//
Fair enough, I stand corrected. I've never used Safari.
//cookie acceptance banners//
Yeah, those are a waste of space (generally FAR TOO MUCH space). There's like 5 words & a couple of buttons! Doesn't need 1/4 of my screen.

       Make HB great again. Just saying...

       //Would you settle for one simple button in the address bar that you click to see every tracker the page has tried to contact?//

       Obviously not, had I been willing to settle for that I wouldn’t have suggested something totally diff… okay, that’s on me. I fed the troll. Won’t happen again.

       Yup, those are definitely things. The world is full of ‘em. That being said, read the idea before ranting about loosely associated stuff that’s not at all the idea proposed.
doctorremulac3, Feb 28 2023

       This is to anybody reading this besides a1.

       Do not listen to him, this is an original idea (good or bad), clearly laid out. It's neither a "wouldn't it be nice" or WKTE.

       The idea is to have a particular set of information that can sometimes be accessed in so many different ways that it's not of any use, and having that information be easily accessed with one button so that it is useful and accessible and that process being codified into law.

       a1, you're obsessed. How about spending more of your time putting up your own ideas and less obsessing about mine? You've obsessed about this for two days now, you really really really want me to take this idea down and it's incredibly important to you for some reason. I'm not going to, now go away.

       Please go away.
