One-legged Bar Stool

A single legged stool which self-balances when you can't.

This is a normal bar seat with a single leg affixed to a floor module which dynamically senses which way you're leaning, à la Segway, to counterbalance your listing as the evening rolls on. I've seen people struggle to remain uprightly seated on bar stools with 3 or even 4 legs as the occupant's centre of gravity moves too far outside the centre of the stool.

Think of balancing a broomstick in one hand (when you're sober enough to perform such a feat). If the unit is dynamic enough you will never be able overbalance. Slumping, however, may require some sort of harness or seatbelt arrangement.

       If the post of the bar stool went into the floor, it could be embedded sufficiently to remain steady. And if the floor had multiple holes into which bar-stool posts could be inserted, that would be almost as good as normal movable chairs (except for trash getting into those holes, of course.

       Nonsense. It would not require any combination of gyroscopes, clever power cord handling, wireless electricity, and internal electronics and would therefore be objectively worse.

       [Ian Tindale], okay, high-heel spikes would be expect- able to get caught in the holes. Alternative footwear should be recommended (there do exist high-heeled non-spiky shoes for women). But the holes don't need to be as big as you seem to be otherwise implying (maybe 2 to 3 cm in diameter). Modern materials tech is good enough for that diameter of post to be strong enough to support any ordinary human body weight.
