Ocean Base Solution

Dropping that Base!

(0)
  [vote for,
against]

Too much CO2 in the atmosphere is acidifying our oceans.

To solve, it, we must DROP THE BASE!

Dun! Dun! EEEERRG! Boop Boop! Dun dun duh!

Human Urine is usually neutral, but when we ingest more veggies & citrus, it becomes basic. (Google it if you doubt; citations are so "pre-google" people.)

So, if we decrease meat consumption, & increase vegetarian consumption, & increase population, send the effluent to the sea, we may therefore counteract the acidification from fossil fuel's creation of CO2.

Then, the plankton & base of the ocean food chain can continue to build shells & skeletons.

For human survival, we must all eat more veggies & pee in the sea.

I think this qualifies for a "let's all". But not sure. I just didn't want it to be ignored altogether. So here, here is a neutral vote. You probably can't see it, but just know it's there. Peace!

Not really a "let's all" but more of an "unproven global chemistry puzzle solution". Like all geoengineering, it's risky. Thanks for the neutral vote.

I'm told that human urine also contains enough adrenaline to attract sharks from several kilometres away. I don't know whether this is true. Anyway, maybe you just need *them* to get with the veggies and citrus program.
pertinax, Jun 21 2014

Pertinax: If that were true, then you'd expect to see sharks congregating at sewage outlets near shores, which I don't think you do.

If sharks were indeed attracted to human urine, then they would stop that attraction within 3 generations of natural selection, as we don't make very good prey, esp. if most of our urine gets to the ocean through pipes, not through surfers.

//sharks congregating at sewage outlets near shores// I think adrenaline would break down long before it gets to the outlet.

Yes, and prescription psychiatric medication excreted by humans is causing an increase in dolphin psychosis. Google it.

Here's another idea to justify the title: "Drop the base" by building geothermally-powered water cannons that continuously blast water into the upper atmosphere, lowering ocean levels to counteract the effects of climate change.

       Utter bollocks.

Interesting, I know that marking your territory in the bush only deters predators if you're a meat eater. I wonder if sharks would be drawn to the urine of vegetarians more than carnivores.

As for the idea; wouldn't it just be a drop in the bucket? Do you really think we produce enough urine to change the ph levels of the oceans?

+ for thinking about the oceans

       - for pissing at them

       so 0.

This science may not be bad but it's certainly of questionable virtue and easy morals.
