Nun-Mac

The latest in law enforcement technology

State-of-the-art electro magnetic technology has been applied in this capture device. It may look something of a nun chuck with balls at the ends instead of sticks, but this device is called nun e-magnetic 500 or “Nun-Mac” for short. Nun-Mac has special circuitry and a 32-bit processor. Inside it’s metallic balls are coiled up wires, electro-magnetic generators, and coiling motors.

When you throw the Nun-Mac, motion sensors pick up the sudden acceleration and activate a process in which both balls emit a positive charge. This allows the Nun-Mac to fly though the air without rotation or the balls coming too close to catch the object. As soon as the wire between the balls comes in contact with a semi-conductor or conductor, for example, a human or a metal pole, then the next process starts. The balls emit opposite charges, drawing them together, and release the lock on the wire wrapped tightly inside. As they come together, the processor figures out the rough circumference of the object. When the balls are a specific distance away from each other, they then emit same charges, making them move away from each other again. Half way around the circumference measure, the balls resume the opposite charges. The processor recalculates the circumference as the balls rejoin again, keeping the original in memory. This change in poles and recalculation can happen up to 200 times a second. Finally, when the processor calculates a certain circumference that is a precise number lower than the original, or the balls run out of wire, the poles stay opposite and the balls touch together.

When they touch, the balls have a magnetic field so strong that they can’t be separated, yet weak enough so as to not to harm even the most delicate child. The balls then retract any exes coil to keep a tight grip on the object.

The only way to separate the magnets is to let out a specific series of ultra sonic sounds that triggers a mechanism that releases the retract motor and turns off the magnetism.

The object of this high-tech device is to capture the person. It severely immobilizes the target, as in it can't move. Then the target (a criminal) can be easily apprehended.

[Thank you, [bristolz], for showing my flaws]

The only thing that is missing in your treatise on the intimate workings of your invention is the part that explains what the device does on a practical level.

Is it supposed to immobilize a person or mop floors or what?

       I like the far-fetched creativity, though. +

       /up to 200 times a second/

in other words, faster than a K9 officer can say "Sic 'em"

R & D expense for this would probably be less than price of a trained police dog.

Looks like a ‘morning glory’ that traps but doesn’t harm.

// When they touch, the balls have a magnetic field so strong that they can’t be separated, yet weak enough so as to not to harm even the most delicate child //

Like my stock standard immovable force and unstoppable wall? And weren't you talking about electrostatic forces before?

Sounds like a techno-bola to me. See link. This is just exactly like re-inventing the wheel, less the wheel.

I apologize for the words ‘morning glory’. That’s how I translate it, but I couldn’t find a link for it. It looks like a ‘battle mace’. <link>

       Good link [LL].

       This'd be an E-Bola.

[Shz]: That type of mace is referred to as a 'Morning Star', I believe.
Jinbish, Oct 02 2003

A morning star has only one ball. - A morning glory has > 1. The link displays both.

I thought this was a computer that even nuns can understand.

I thought it was for keeping nuns dry.

I thought it was a new burger at McDonalds (black buns, lots of mayonaisse...?)

I was hoping this was a pasta dish with cheesy sauce - especially appealing to the nun in all of us.

       + There's hope yet ;op

I get too technical at times

Remember: most gangsters wear heavy metal jewelery. If the balls are emitting a magnetic charge, there is a risk that it would catch the metal instead of the perp.

I thought you were talking about a bola that emits a magnetic charge after catching someone to keep the balls from separating.
croissantz, Apr 28 2006

This is a bola. I have a few. I thought this was a computer for nuns that just got robbed.
