Nitrogen Bar

A relaxing environment to meet with friends and breath pure nitrogen

Just like Oxygen Bars which are popular in some cities, Nitrogen Bars would be the same relaxing places where the trendy go and hook up breathing tubes fed with pure nitrogen. These would be places to go for about 15 minutes, after the user has already been to an Oxygen Bar for 35 minutes, so that they would even out the air in their system.

Nitrogen narcosis and the bends. [st3f, Oct 21 2004]

Risk of losing consciousness and/or suffocating for no benefit, as far as I can see.

Darwin Device. Allows stupid, trendy people to self-extinguish quickly, cleanly and without fuss. Important social service. Croissant.

seeing as how fruit are preserved in pure nitrogen atmospheres for periods of up to a year, maybe this could be marketed as a longevity treatment:

"if it's good enough for a fruit, it's good enough for you!"

Hmmm... how about a Helium bar? Funny voices are always a plus.

Oxygen Bars? People really pay money for such things? I guess P.T. Barnum was right.

Sheesh. Just take a walk outside if you want to score some nitrogen.

I like the idea of nitrogen narcosis as a trippy altered consciousness state. The problem is the requirement for a decompression chamber to avoid the bends afterwards. Although maybe 18 hours in a nice quiet chamber would be better than 18 hours of brutal hangover.

This could be an optional adjunct at the super ritzy bottom of the sea casino.

bungston: the bends would only occur if the nitrogen bar itself was pressurised to more than a couple of atmospheres. I'm not sure about nitrogen narcosis but think that this, too, would only occur at significantly higher than atmospheric pressure... (checks) yep, only at high pressures. [link] (or were you inferring that this bar would be found only at the bottom of the sea)

This is why it would not be at every old casio, but only at the super ritzy bottom of the sea casino.

Although I suppose a superduper ritzy surface casino could acquire a hyperbaric chamber and duplicate the effect.
