Sausage which has been infused with bioluminescent plankton during preparation, resulting in a pleasant blue marbled glow effect, suitable for eating after hours.
(I wonder if it's coincidental that the halfbakery tagline that came up while posting is, 'Replace "light" with "sausages" and this may
work...')

So, not some sort of sexual modification? |

Won't cooking denature the proteins, stopping the illumination ? |
You need to incorporate radionuclides into the skin, in high concentrations. Fortunately, nuclear waste is cheap and plentiful. Also, the intense radiation flux will strongly inhibit bacterial growth, increasing shelf life. |

[8th] My rigorous and extensive lack of analysis suggests that the bioluminescence would survive the cooking process. |
Of course, more research is needed. |
It would certainly be a USP for hot-dog vendors. |
With glowing red ketchup, yellow mustard, and blue sausages, the possibilities are .... interesting. |
//Won't cooking denature the proteins// Only if it's a cooked
sausage. If it's real, salamioid fermented sausage that should
not be an issue. In fact, I'm sure you could engineer
lactobacilli to be bioluminescent. |

Thankyou for that insight, [MB]. [tat], it seems your idea is not impractical, and the idea of the self-illuminating self-cooking radioactive sausage will have to wait - obviously an idea for which the market is not yet ready. |

Hold on, this is brilliant, but why stop at sausage? |
Even if you didn't want to do the infusing with glowing gunk
you could have all natural ingredients that fluoresce under
black light. |

Woa, fridge sunglasses at night for that dietary rave? |

How would you check for lamp failure ? |
Why is there a standard lamp? A UV bulb out would be obvious. |
