Neanderthal body mods

On the one hand: the world is full of weird and interesting people. Amongst these, there are people who undergo body modification to resemble reptiles, cats or Barbie.

On a completely different hand: we believe that we can reconstruct the facial appearance and body structure of Neanderthals from their skeletons. There are many allegedly lifelike reconstructions, and statements have been made that a Neanderthal, if shaved and dressed, would probably pass unnoticed in a crowd.

Putting these two things together, it seems about time for one adventurous body-modder to set about turning themselves into a Neanderthal, appearance-wise. Implants and metalwork to bring forward the centre of the face, nose enlargement and brow ridges would be a start. Modifications to the ribcage to create the classic Neanderthal barrel-chest would be next. Serious workouts would be needed to build up anything approaching Neanderthal strength. A little limb-length adjustment, well within the scope of modern surgery, would help too.

After all, if you're going to go to all that trouble, what's the point in ending up trying to look like a lizard?

To make some money off of the GEICO ads, surely.

//So you are discounting interbreeding ?// No - it does look as if we interbred with Neanderthals (although the evidence isn't as robust as is claimed). But physically we are a lot closer to our pre- interbreeding ancestors than we are to Neanderthals.

Sooner or later we'll make a real Neanderthal population, but probably not for a few decades. It would do us good to co-exist with another species of human again.

If you got lost and started to move around randomly would you be a Meanderthal?

Wouldn't you learn more if you tried co-existing with a truly intelligent species, instead of just other humans ?

//tried co-existing with a truly intelligent species// We tried interacting with the Borg, but every time there was a power glitch they went into spin cycle.

We're trying to find an intelligent species, but it's an election year, so it's been a challenge.
