(HLI is an abbreviation [mine, as far as I know] for Human-Level Intelligence)
As we approach a moment in human history where computational power may soon exhibit simulated self-awareness, I propose that we decide now on a moniker by which we will refer to the first A.I. Something simple, likely
two syllables. Not too gender specific, and not too pedestrian. Something that sounds like a name, but doesn't carry any intrinsic meaning in the language of its' origin.
Obvious entries to skip are Google, SkyNet, Siri, Penis, XKCD, and Bob.
I imagine several approaches to ascertaining this name. Either write a bit of software to churn out all the possibly pronounceable combinations of 2-to-8 letter, duosyllabic words and sift through the results via HLI. Or, poll a full half of the world's population and sift through those results for common entries. Maybe put all the world's linguists together in a room and have them linguistically sort it. Or perhaps, let the A.I. name itself, which is exactly the opposite of the idea that I propose.

Who says we'd get to name it? |

"What's your dog's name?"
"He wouldn't tell us, so we just call him Rex." |

That would produce all of the names of G-d, triggering the
end of the world per that one science fiction story. |

Yes, yes, of course. Also, Sith, Pew-Pew, Shodan, and 2001. *sigh*... |

[pashute], that IDentifier may be Globally Unique, but I'm having a hard time fitting it to two or three syllables. (are you humorously referring to something specific, or did you make that up randomly?) |

Bob gets my vote. Anyway, back at the

At least we could then pretend it was invented by somebody French |

Apologies, [pertinax], my error was clear to me the moment you mentioned it. |

I guess 'Bob' is as good as anything else, really. How many Roberts' friends will we legitimately confuse this way? |
|
|
None, because he doesn't have any. |

Can we dress it up in a Kimono and call him Associate Bob? |
