Hey "news" networks. You want to sell emotion? Want to
get the
people worked up, dopamine flowing and adrenaline
pumping?
Then use
the
right format. Idiots behind a desk are so 2018.
Major disaster story: "An earthquake..." (quick cut shots
of distruction and mayhem) "A politician
who cares about
nothing but power..." (News network's nemesis politician,
Trump for CNN, Clinton for Fox, shown in an overlay
laughing, possibly counting money or drinking
champagne...) "The innocent suffer... (shots of innocents
suffering) "But one politician says enough is enough!!"
(big fanfair music with proud, head held high quarter
face shots of either Hillary or Trump kneeling to wipe
the tears of the little crying child...
OK, you get the idea.
So that's the politician angle, you can also target groups,
individuals, it could be the badguy of the week in
keeping with our new French revolution love affair with
seeing people brought down.
And from a business standpoint, have you seen the
amount of money those talking heads get? These could
be done basically for free by interns.
I'm sort of making fun of this but I'm not sure after seeing
a few of these I would watch anything else.
Now don't get me wrong, all the facts can be there,
they're just "spiced up a bit". Lots of information can be
crammed into a 30 second compilation of stuff. Details
can be scrolled across the screen, quick flashes of exact
time and location. In fact, much more info could be put
into 30 seconds than you could get from somebody
reading during that same amount of time.
This will need lots of examples. Give me a sec.
Start easy. Put your "news" story in the appropriate slots.

Tom Lehrer

Watching that news real I'm struck by how poetic the
narration is, so that's something that could be brought back. |
Haven't you just invented Fox News? |
Clinton is so 2016. For zod's sake people let her go. |
Well, the point is to generate anger from the audience. If
Hillary does it, that's the choice. Hate is big business,
ager is an industry and loathing is a
commodity. |
Hey, I'm a consumer. We all are. If any of us ever met a
person who said "Well, I like all
sides." we'd hate THEM. |
Nobody is immune. Come people, come bask in the warm
glow of seething hatred! Coooome! Cooooome!
(Weeknights at 8, 7 central time.) |
//Seathing// is that searingly seething? |
Darn it, I knew that one too. |
I really need to start reading these things before posting
them. |
// If any of us ever met a person who said "Well, I like all
sides." ...// You've not been to England, have you? |
This is why I like my news boring. Jim Lehrer style. |
No, boring I said. Not dead. |
Tom Lehrer style would be much more entertaining, and quite possibly more informative. |
Jim Lehrer style would be good. Bygone days. |
"Three thousand pigeons were found dead in Central Park
today. Poisoning suspected. |
And that was that was the week that was...that was." |
These days a few Benny Hill reruns could well stand in for
the daily political news, and be fairly accurate. |
